TX my motor locked up!

I was at about 6k RPM in 2nd gear and lost all power! car would bairly run. Pulled over, turned it off and popped the hood.

oil was full (clean fresh 20w50 royal purple) and didnt smell burned.
all hoses (intercooler, maf, etc) looked good
pfc showed 92c at the time
car has 90k miles on it, may be original motor. I dont know the engines history.

Go to start it back up... after 10 sec of cranking, she locked up on me.

Now the big debate: brand new engine (not reman) from mazda for 4k
or SP rebuild....

the mazda engines come with new everything... rotors, housings, flywheel, oil/water pump ... even the oil pan.

Decisions decisions. Any input? seems like a rebuild could potentially cost as much as the new motor if i have a bad housing, etc.

Depends on what caused the lock-up.
Normally caused by total water seal failure, or e-shaft bearing extreme failure.

Best to pull the motor and take it apart.

I got the following parts on order:

New OEM shortblock
exhaust and intake gaskets
OMP o-ring

Im holding off on injector seals because I think I will be installing the FFE rails during this motor swap. I already id a complete vacuum hose job. Anything else I might be overlooking to do this swap? I am shopping motor mounts right now, trying to see whats best. Chris @ RP said the oil pan brace isnt necessary.

how much is it worth?

Mazda wants it back as a core for the reman program they fired back up.

Are you doing the work yourself or do you have a shop to take it to?

After much debate, and talking to multiple people I just ordered the brand new engine. Should be here in about 7 to 10 business days.

Unfortunately they charged me a 1000 core charge, so i better ship it back to them!

TX

I got it from a Mazda dealership. They are no longer in production, they told me i got the very last one that was in the united states.

They fired the reman program back up though, if you want to go that route.

New motor??? I think you are getter a re-man, with ("possible new parts")

Think about it, why do you think they want that core back so much, to rebuild it and put any new parts they need into it.

Many others bought the same new motor. I questioned it too, but 2 different mazda dealers confirmed there was a new and a reman one.

Think about a battery, even tho it is new the lead that is in the battery mostly is used and cleaned back up.

could be all new, considering they don't need to produce as many renesis engines now that most are falling out of warranty and no more are going into production.
