My mom has a house on Canyon Lake, maybe 45 minutes away. Will definitely be there if work permits and the car is in good shape!

officially signed up.

Need to get my ass in gear and get my car road worthy.
Is there a classroom portion of the class before going on to the track? Nervous as it would be my first time and I've never really pushed my car around turns.
My two prereqs were a full brake job and to install my dual oil cooler kit. Knocked out the brakes last wkend so I am well on my way! |
^it seems like there will be from what I've read. It will be my first time to put my fd on the track as well, but I figured why not for $100 :)
What type of helmet does this track require? I need to buy one and I would like it to be inexpensive and open-faced if that is kosher.
Snell rated SA2005 should still be a adequate.
Registered. Taking the FD but the 8 will be the backup :)
Snell SA2005 is outdated and will not pass any sanctioned tech. If your buying a helmet, but a newer SA2010. You will get many more years of use out of it...

I did one of the HPDE events there a year or two back and definitely recommend doing it once, esp if it's your first time on the track. They'll do a little classroom session before going out and if you have any questions just ask, the guys that run the place and (most) instructors are super cool & are there to help you. Important thing to remember is that it's not a race so just take your time and go at your own pace until you gain confidence in your and your car's abilities. Also it's pretty bumpy out there so if your car is lowered and you think the tire might chew up the fender then it most definitely will. Take everything you need to raise it up if need be. At another event I did there my tire bit the fender at 100mph on the back stretch(turn 6) and things got interesting real quick, almost went off-roading lol. Here's some video from the HPDE...
