Any good engine builders/tuners in Houston?

I have a FD with a T78 big street port and lots of other stuff found a Puerto Rican guy named Carlos with Zorro racing that does drag cars and he talked me into changing Ecu to Fuel tech did a crappy job installing it then ran the boost WAY too high and popped my engine while tuning it. It did make 657 HP on pump gas on the dyno, (obviously only for a very short amount of time). Anyways I need a someone that actually knows what they are doing to help rebuild my engine and tune it in once its all sorted out. Any suggestions?

Ive never heard of any in Houston. They don't need a good name to be good. Ask the tuner how much time they spend on "drive ability" tuning or if they just tune for WOT. If they don't tune it for street driving, then they probably don't have any great ability. Be patient and be willing to ship it. Good luck.

I don't know if he's available anymore as I know he's been swamped busy for the last few years but Chuck (Rx7_Nut13B) used to be the local Houston guy to go to. If Chuck can't build the motor you could always look up Brian D. Cain of Dallas on facebook or go with Steve Kan of PRT performance (also near Dallas) who would also be capable of providing tuning.

As for local tuning only, I would contact Nelson Siverio on facebook. He's an extremely reputable and well known tuner and he lives up in the Woodlands 30-45 minutes North of Houston.

Good luck!

Best to go to RP in Dallas RX7.COM Performance and Repair Parts for RX-7 and RX-8

or Steve Kan PRT Performance | Lewisville Performance Shop | Dallas Auto Services | Dyno Tuning near Dallas.

Rotary performance is probably a good option for a mild build, but I don't think they like to deal with heavily ported motors or aggressive big boost high horsepower tuning and it sounds like this guy is wanting to push it pretty hard here.

I'd reach out to Steve Kan as cewrx7r1 suggested.

There will be a great shop opening soon in Houston (Cypress). Alex Rodriguez (of Alex Rodriguez Motorsports) is opening shop in June or July. He's pretty approachable on Facebook, just be sure you know what you want and when you want it. His Cali shop has a 2 month waiting list for motors. Check him him out:

If this is true...it's excellent news. Between Alex Rodriguez and Nelson Silverio moving to the woodlands there's some pretty serious brap potential up there.

Depending on what your setup is and what ECU you have I can do it if you don't want to wait or of its not something I'm familiar with I'm sure Nelson can tune anything.

Car currently stock. I'm getting ready to install fluidyne radiator, m2 smic, m2 intake, downpipe, and catback. I have power fc and commander. Not sure what else I should upgrade (fuel pump? injectors? spark plugs? etc?).
not looking to do anything big

It really just depends on what your plans are for the car. Upgrading to a modern fuel pump is never a bad idea and simply replacing the oem spark plugs on a regular basis is plenty fine. You dont need to actually change plug type until you are making ~400hp which you won't be doing on stock twins. The oem 550/850 injectors are fine until about the same level.

Do you have a wideband and a datalogit?

Not looking to do much for power. Most likely keeping things very mild. Not looking for 300+up hp.

no wideband or datalogic. I'm still trying to pickup a datalogic
what's the wideband for? So for the noob question

All good. Regardless of power those two things are critical to maintaining a rx7 of any power level. And you just need a basic wideband. Visually its an indicator as to if your whole system is functioning correctly and safely. And given the PFC has little to no real engine protection features it is really important you have some sort of external indicator. You can get an average one new for $180 or so. Lool up the innovate MTX-L.

as for the Houston meets theres a Facebook group with all the info add me on facebook at www.facebook.com/hsethallen and Ill send you the group link
