Your ACT HD 6 puck clutch combo. How bad is your chatter/vibration?
Finally installed my ACT sprung 6 puck disc. I had been previously running the HDSS disc without problems, however, its not able to handle my current power levels. Well I recently drove the car with the new disc and the drivelne vibrates violently during engagement coming from a standstill. Is this normal? It almost feels as though something is loose, but I am sure that evertyhing has been properly tightened. This vibration is mostly felt moving off uphill.
Will it get better as the clutch gets brogen in? |
mine did that for a day or two. looking at your sig i have basically the same setup as you, just not at 25psi yet! barely spinning it to 13psi for now. the ACT now feels almost like a stock clutch, it is that smooth. you do have to learn the sweet spot where it engages and rev up a bit so the driveline shock isn't so hard. once you get the hang of this you won't even notice you're doing it, and the clutch will hold and hold good. i launch my car at 8K under boost and there is no spinning/slipping to be noticed.

don't expect much improvement. At least it's sprung. The unsprung ones are worse.
I've had mine for a few months now and it was a little harsh at first but i would say it broke in quite nicely and right now it feels like stock pedal and the engagement is quick and positve. Maybe give it some more time.
On a sidenote the ACT release bearing fell apart after 3k miles and started making all kinds of noise and pedal was all spongy. Replaced it with OEM and it has been perfect. |
I have an unsprung and I never had any problems at all, no chatter at all until it started to wear out. Liked the clutch so much I bought it again.
it depends how much u ride the clitch when ur going from a stop somettimes i feel it chatter sometimes it just goes
Mine doesn't chatter to much. In my previous car I went out and launched the hell out of it (AWD) and it stopped chattering.
It takes time to learn how to "drive" a unsprung clutch. Having a light flywheel makes the process harder.
Been driving it a few days now, cant say it has gotten better but I am better in the manner how I work the clutch pedal to minimise the chatter and vibrations.
Mine was pretty grabby at first. It seems much better a year later. I started with the unsprung clutch disc. It was fast sifting but damn violent. The spring 6 puck feels fine after that initial break-in.
Mine engages like a stock clutch. And really grabs when it needs to. 2 years an 10000 miles on it, plenty of drag launches on it too.
Its feeling better every time I drive the car.
I does take a bit to wear in, but once it does... It's on!
