Wich turbo would be best for the 1/4 mile

Which single turbo would reliably produce the quickest 1/4 mile time assuming that everything else is the same on the car. No nitrous used. Assuming that the car is boosting within its individual efficiancy rate not necessarily at a set point. Lokking for something producing 450-550 RWHP.

blackscorpio 09-27-02 02:15 PM

ok i would also like to add that the car will be street driven as well.

mmonaco 09-27-02 09:23 PM

not to be a dick, but search alittle, there is a shit load of info on this site. But i would go with the t78.

blackscorpio 09-28-02 09:46 AM

I have been searching. But the posts usually copare the turbos lag vs top end, and how streetable a certain HP level is, or how much boost is efficient or not. What I was askin was just based on the numbers taking lag and top end into account, which is faster.
Example a T-78 may be able to achieve higher top end but is a little laggy as opposed to say a gt 35/40 but the gt 35/40 will spool faster. Whichone is faster in a 1/4 mile. Based on a similar setup. which is more reliable.

mmonaco 09-28-02 10:02 PM

thats hard to say cause, there us alot or variable, like do you drive it on the steet or just a drag car. how many psi all the time and DD. IF it just a drag car i would get a bb kai.

Silver7 09-29-02 07:35 PM

There are way too many variables involved. The turbo itself is just a piece of the puzzle.
In sizing a turbo you should figure out how much boost you will be running. Then take a look at different compressor maps and see what would best suit your needs. You should go with the smallest turbo that will suit your needs. For instance, a T78 will work great if you are boosting at over 20 psi. If you don't plan on boosting that much then you should choose something smaller like a GT35-40 or a 60-1. There is no sense it having a big laggy turbo ir you are not going to use it. FWIW, the 60-1 and the XS T04S are the same thing.

Best thing to do is look at the fastest guy running and see what his setup is. None of the turbo's you mention would do shit against most single turbo'ed Supras.
Ray Wilson runs 9.80's with the T51R SPL. So there's your answer.

forcefed7 09-29-02 10:56 PM

You're getting better Ernie:) Almost correct on my current setup...I run the smaller T51R (KAI). I also spray a 50 shot to aid spool-up though.

Ray, have you ever thought about using the BB version???

Yeah I got a price on the Kai and the Spl BB'S. Too much money...

stevenoz 09-30-02 06:52 PM

It's a japan only item as far as I know. Only sold over there by HKS.

you seriously won't do shit w/ the hp number you want. you need something like a y2k just to beat supras these days. just for reference forcefed7 ran a 9.8 and he's still off a full sec. off the street tire record by the msp supra. that supra puts down 1350rwhp.

ErnieT 10-04-02 08:33 PM

Titan Motorsports best et. is a 9.0, but they break more than we do! Its consistancy that wins races, not always the fastest.

fdracer 10-06-02 02:36 AM

uh, i don't know what you're talking about, but titan already has the nhra championship wrapped up for street tire this year. so they're not losing all too much.

The supra may win this year for the FIRST time..? How many years has the RX-7 won..?;)

fdracer 10-07-02 03:20 PM

once.

Ehughes 10-07-02 03:47 PM

I'd rather lose the race in an RX-7 than win in a Supra. Hell, a month or so ago in Houston, a 10.5" tire MUSTANG ran a mid 7 second 1/4....but it is still a mustang. I'll take the mazda...on principle.

no doubt. all i'm sayin is if you wanna make a dent drag racing you better come out w/ some big guns.

Carl Byck 06-07-03 05:34 PM

My near stock Supra TT(405rwhp) runs mid 12s at 118 on street tires. That's about the same as my road race FC (300rwhp) on RA1s(12.8@112). Like they are saying there are ALOT of Supras that COULD be fast (11s,& high 10s)driven correctly. Carl Byck

Hey carl, what mods hae you done to your supra? My friend wants one and wants to know where to start. That's pretty good for near stock

TurboFD 06-08-03 10:57 AM

why do they keep putting RX-7's and Supras up against eachother if the Supra will usually win? why not race them with 94 awd eclipses or something, they're good cars and often beat RX-7s.

TurboFD 06-08-03 12:27 PM

id probably go with the GT35/45 or T-78

RageRace 06-08-03 01:08 PM

It all comes down to HOW BIG IS YOUR WALLET??? But if you want the best for the 1/4 just go with dual twin t66 and run nitromethane it will do a good quarter!!!LOL
