what single turbo to go with?
 
okay jus lookin in the market for a single turbo. wont be anytime soon prolly this winter i will finalize this thought. right now jus searching. i was planning to get a power fc soon to squeeze more hp with my current upgrades( cat back, intake.
my future upgrade is single turbo hoping t78 or 88 turbo. thus sayin i know i need to upgrade my injectors fuel pump fmic, bigger rad, twin fan maybe, and afr and various gauges.... my question with my stock internal no ports polish... what size of turbo is best with stock setup?

another questions. how does sr20dett black top in an fd sound? good or stupid? in drift world this sounds good.. accordin to my friends

T78 and T88 are older designs.

I think for a drifter the GT3574 from A-Spec would be ideal, cheap, power is more than good and spool is decent.

Or else a GT35R series.

This isn't Gran Turismo we polishing you engine isn't stage 1.

On stock internals larger turbos are going to be useless. Why don't you go to the limit of your stock turbos before you start looking for more power, by doing that at least you would already have all the important parts to support single turbo.

Fuel kit, pump, rewire, Twin Power, EBC, Midpipe,Downpipe etc....

STOCK turbo's ARE only good for about 14~15psi, upgraded units like Knightsports or BNR twins would be your best bet. They use slightly better wheels and thrust bearings so they flow better. On a stock port engine, you should get pretty good performance out of a set of sequential BNR stage 3's, an upgraded intercooler, bigger secondary injectors and a better fuel pump. Just my $0.02

no....i just bought rims jus like phatmanbud and the same wide body kit burnout or shine auot. 19x11 rear with +20offset 3 pc rims. (dforged df1). those are pretty heavy wheels man. where im from its unreal. we have 2jz supras nsx gt500 mustangs gto's watever u can think of. u wont believe the life where im from.. every sunday we have cruise night where our main city street stretchin from 10 km atleast people park and and sit and watch cars go by its like a past time. we have cars show in parkin lots. then when night comes we have races down the highway. its unreal you wont believe untill you see it. the cops man all they can do is sit and watch untill you break the law they pull you over. if your a car guy you should live inh my city. put watevre mod you want and you wont get introuble.

Nobody can recommend you a turbo until you give a HP goal, what you are willing to spend, and what you are willing to do as far as building your motor, fuel system, etc etc. The fact is that if you want to go beyond the twins you need to upgrade pretty much everything. You can do 300 - 320 on the twins stock motor, stock fuel, just all the bolt ons and PowerFC. If that isnt enough power then you need fuel rails and injectors which will run you $750 or so. Then you can get maybe close to 350 on the twins with stock port if you are lucky.

If you want to go any further then you may as well rebuild and port the motor, would suck to get everything purchased for going single and blow your motor because it was on it last leg. The list goes on and on, but a realistic expectation is that you will probably spend $10k or more on your car to go single. If you keep your stock motor/ports it wouldn't really be worthwhile in my opinion to go single. the stock ports can spool a single but not anything big enough that it will get you big power and still be pleasant to drive on the street.

t78 and t88 are big ass turbos. It's not really fun to drive because it starts boosting sooooooooooooo late. Get a t3 bb turbo and you'll love it, more fun to drive etc.

So you bought 19 inch rims to drift...... and 330 rwhp isn't enough because your rims are so big.... Maybe something is wrong with my logic here but aren't you kind of doing things ass backwards?

I won't beleive where you are from? Well if it is located in this universe I can think of it.

Your car will never be the "best in the city". If you are not modifying your car for personal satisfaction and searching to impress others you are in for a long and expensive lesson of self discovery.

Also no matter what kind of car you "build" yourself it will never hold toghether without a competent tuner and mechanic. These cars are extremely fragile and not at all what I think someone with your desires should have gotten themselves into. Sell it now but a 240 you will thank me 5 years down the road.

I totally agree. Lol 330 whp not enough for drifting.Then i think u should go for jet skiing man. Drifting is no where for you. And yes sell your car ASAP

okay to start off with i never said i wanted a drift car. and 330 rwhp is not enough for me. and last i wanted an rx7 bcus i wanted a good car to drag and a car to auto cross.

330whp is more than enough for drifting. i drifted my s13 with a stock KA in it. that's like 100whp. i break the end loose just thinking about it in my brother's stock twin FD. i rode in a stock AP1 s2k (190ish whp) and did reverse lock ovals the length of the parking lot for minutes at a time without breaking a sweat.

you wanna drift a stock FD with 19X11 rear wheels? that can be done. very low profile hard compound tyres running high pressure, a very strong rear sway bar, high rear spring rates and shock rates, a mechanical diff and leave the front end stock. And pull all unnecessary weight off the back of the car like the spare and 14" subs and park bench spoilers. Drifting it well is another story:)

i dont think i got 14"subs in the back all i have back there are 2 seats. lol. well my goal for my fd is a daily driver car that rips 10-11 1/4 times that i drive to the track not in a trailer that looks sexy unique stock looking body (shine wide body)
that turns like shit around the corner and when half to come visit the local drift session and drift soso around the course. basically what i want is to beat like you said vettes mustangs, muscle cars and leave them askin what i have done under the hood and reply a 1.3L.... and then lol go to car shows open up my hood see stainless steel cross braided lines polish intake, single turbo fmic. etc etc...
all i want to do is rep. rx7 becuase they have a bad name. i want to show that a lil' tlc, rx7s can be like hondas and reliable and get all the negitives and turn them into possitives by jus knowing what to maintaining them (cooling issues).

i used to own a z32 no one said i can ever single turbo it. but i heard it can be done cus of its v style motor and the room int he engine bay, i wanted to be uniqie even tho spendin more then 20,000 i done it. t78 turbo eliminating the rad and goin with electirc cooling system. i got about 1.5 foot on the front of the engine bay. i placed my t68 on the front and got my friend to weld m y exhaust mani to the front combined the turbos and did meth injected the whole works bigger fuel pump, upgraded ignition, fuel lines. fuel pressure reg so on so on.
car went like shit. no power on the bottom end but top end it was a feelin like no other. with stock enternals i push the motor to far and got blow by and motor went toast so right now im rebuilding the vg30dett motor with a big block forged piston cams port and polish, whole works. these are my 2 babies my z32 and my fd3s:)

a t78 is still too big for autoX. also t78 is only good in real high psi range because older design. go with something newer. i think there was a champ autoX red FD that had a GT42R in it don't quote me tho.

with supporting mods a GT42R will give u good midrange with a really good port job and get an FD into the 11's. (getting into 11's is more about setup and driver than power tho from what i hear)

i don't have experience with these turbos tho it's just what i've read about them. i just suggest you look into them.

from what i hear if you want to get into the 10s 1/4 mile then turbo selection is the tippity tip of the ice berg. i know of FDs going into the 10s with 500 whp and stock suspension and i also know of FDs having trouble making mid 11s with 600 whp.

don't go searching for horsepower. go searching for the sweet spot.

um no the GT42R is not what you want. Its bigger than the T-78 and spools slower. Stick with a GT35R, T04Z, T04R etc.

Please go into more detail on how you eliminated the rad with your electric cooling system. Where did all the heat go? Did you store it in a reservoir of some kind of phase change material? If so, how much heat capacity did it have (ie. how long could you drive the car)? Was the heat rejected using evaporative cooling? If so, what did you keep in the reservoir and what was it's capacity and liquid flow rate? Did you convert the engine to air cooled? If so, how did you get enough airflow through such a cramped engine bay? Did you add a huge oil cooler and use only oil cooling? If so, then how did you cool the upper cylinder area?

I'm very interested in this. It sound revolutionary and could completely change the entire auto industry.

well wpg rx7 if u do have money and want to something unique that'll be hard to catch down that little stretch of road in your city and also represent the rx7 there..

buy a 20B engine subframe for your FD, a jdm turbo 20B cosmo engine, and find a shop that some experience doing a swap like that to jimmy it in your FD.

if you're frugal, you could prob do it for 10k with a subframe that doesn't move the engine back too deep.

however, making that thing a running single turbo will cost a bit more.

if you got the funds, a 20B would be:

-unique
-a more reliable high horse power conversion with more bottom end grunt
-still staying true (staying rotary)
-you could still say that you got only a 2 litre under the hood (how many of u 2L friends nissans making 600 to the wheels AND have the low down grunt along with it?)

hey, in fairness, it's possible. just not for very long.

I also have a z32 twin turbo and a couple years back i blew off my res lid cold staring because my coolant was too much water not enough antifreeze and the water pump pumped out all the water because a coolant line was froze up before the block.

anyways, i drove the for a whole hour (horrible for the water pump i know) driving 5-10 min at a time then parking the car.

VG30TT engine are a whole different thing than 13B rotary engines. The can take A LOT of heat soak before overheating. i have experience overheating both engines.

i have overheated my rx7 letting it idle with coolant. i also have ran in boost at stop light traffic on no coolant and did not overheat my 300zx twin turbo.

VG30TT engine are a whole different thing than 13B rotary engines. The can take A LOT of heat soak before overheating. i have experience overheating both engines.

i have overheated my rx7 letting it idle with coolant. i also have ran in boost at stop light traffic on no coolant and did not overheat my 300zx twin turbo.

"thanks for backin me up as i clearly stayed my car was up and running then had blow by at 22 pounds of boost car ran fine at 15 lbs but when i turned it to 22 psi the car didnt do so good.... oil was leaking and burning oil"
and it was dual oiled cooled.
for all u skeptics out there hers a pic to show my setup!!!!! if u really dont believe me look up walls rod and custom in wpg! how many single turbo are there in the world? and happends to be in my city?

Wait a second...so you actually removed the radiator and cooling fan and used a big oil cooler instead?! Wow. I have no words to reply with that will be adequate to describe what I'm thinking right now.

what do you mean adequate? everything ran well but my internals werent built enough for the power. it was dyno'd at 450 rwhp i had mickey thompson at the back for traction on my bbs 3pc rims. right now its under going motor work. v6 long block

I think he is confused in what he is saying. There is clear view of a radiator overfill bottle in two of the engine bay pics of the Z32. Either he didn't understand your questions or he know nothing about cars and it is all made up....

i meant i took it and moved it right behind the fmic to make room for the turbo where the rad used to be at. i eliminated the clutch fan. cooled my oil and if there more room after i put the new engine in i might go with a tranny cooler to. heres another pic of my fmic and bigger rad.
