What’s the proper oil feed set up?
 

I’ve already searched but my specific questions don’t seem to have any answers so PLEASE help.

Here’s the full story……… I’m changing from a T series turbo over to a GT series and have a question in relation to the oil feed line.
My current set up is this: -6 off the front iron running though a -6 line which then reduced into a -4 then that reducer threads into the turbo. Now I’ve been told that this is the cause for many peoples set ups blowing oil seals internally in the turbo and that I need to change everything from the iron to the turbo to a -3, is this true???

My thought is that if I have a -6 line reducing to a -4 or -3 at the turbo itself isn’t that the same as reducing the entire line from the iron to a -4 or -3 and running to the turbo? The way I see it is that no matter what size the line (lets say -6) as long as its restricted going into the turbo that’s all that matters because its not like a -3 could feed more oil and pressure then its max capacity allows so what would it matter if the entire line and fittings are -3? See my point? Plus on the GT turbo its already internally restricted which I would think would help even more.

I just don’t want to go out and blow more money on all new fittings and line if I don’t have to. I would rather just change the fitting at the turbo assuming this is safe.

My other question is what would be the proper size (line and or fittings) to run without causing too much or too little oil? Is a -3 in fact the right size or would a -4 be acceptable?

GT turbo's are internally restricted correct. Some people sell .030 or .035 restrictors. Personally I don't like that idea, I have my reasons. We run -4 feeds with .070 restrictor or no restrictor and never seem to have any issues.

Thanks Sean. So am I to take it that the line size itself has no bearing on the situation and it all comes down to the reducer at the turbo and the restrictor? Do I have to run the restrictor or can I get away with running the -6 line into a -3 fitting?
