wastegate plumbing
Are most kits made for the wastegate to dump to the atmosphere, and if so how hard is it re-pipe them to the downpipe? I know SR does this for you with thier Apexi kits but is this something anyone can do?

Should be pretty easy with a mig. Just run a pipe from the outlet of the wastegate and Y it back into the exhaust stream. You don't want to dump it right back in behind the turbo, though. Give the gasses a few feet for the turbulence of the turbine to die down. I'm sure there are other opinions about this. I will probably vent to atmosphere when I build my next car. Legally you are supposed to put it back b4 the converter (that I know all of you are running if your cars are on the street https://www.rx7club.com/ubb/wink.gif )

Even race cars have limited noise levels, so you really need to pipe it back into the exhaust system, or run a separate exhaust pipe and muffler for the waste gate. You may get away with open-air venting if you have a small turbo which will seldom make enough boost to open the waste gate, but for some reason I think that you don't have this situation. https://www.rx7club.com/ubb/smile.gif
Here's a pic of my 20B setup. The turbo-back exhaust was built by the world-class racing folks at Jim Bonsey Automotive and co-designed by SPiN Racing. You will notice that the pipe has the ability to expand and contract so it is less prone to breaking welds and cracking pipes. This, or slip-joints, are absolutely necessary if the car is intended to be driven at different RPM levels, such as on the street or roadracing. http://home.tampabay.rr.com/spinraci...0aeroquip3.jpg ------------------ 88 RX-7 20B/T66 Money Pit 88 RX-7 TII Daily Driver 84 RX-7 GS Driving School Beater 00 F-150 Recovery Vehicle |
Eeeevilly impressive. https://www.rx7club.com/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm16.gif

IMHO it would cause less flow disturbance to have it joining at the bend, so you have it joing like this _\____
hopefully that pic makes sense |
That 3 rotor is making me green with envy! Please don't show that thing around here... my bank account and retirement fund can't handle it! Oh mamma...

Fuck me that is the smallest exhaust housing I have ever seen! That engine must choke to death above 6500rpm....
I do not know how you guys can put such tiny exhaust housing on these engines, let alone a 20B!....ports must be near stock? Not giving you a hard time I just hate how the small housings 1.0a/r choke a 13B (street port) it must kill a 20B???? I rekon you would have 1 or 2 psi boost when you turn the starter motor! https://www.rx7club.com/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ http://www.geocities.com/riceracinga...a/RICECARD.jpg |

A .96 is the largest A/R that Turbonetics offers for the T-series turbochargers without special order. Do you make your own or something? Oh, and it hasn't been started yet... just got the -20 AN fittings on last week. The plumbing is going a bit slower than expected, but everything is working out great. ------------------ 88 RX-7 20B/T66 Money Pit 88 RX-7 TII Daily Driver 84 RX-7 GS Driving School Beater 00 F-150 Recovery Vehicle [This message has been edited by Evil Aviator (edited March 07, 2001).] |

yes turbonetics are basically garretts, garrett make big A/R exhuast housings so i cant see why turbonetics cant do you a turbo with one, makes no sense, that sized turbo will fit in your engine bay, just need a higher manifold so it lifts it up more

I've never had to special order turbine housings that are greater than .96 A/R.
The 1.0,1.15 or 1.32 A/R housings are available once there're in stock. crispeed 87TII 9.74@139mph ------------------ |

No matter, half of the stuff on my car is custom-made or special-order anyway. https://www.rx7club.com/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ 88 RX-7 20B/T66 Money Pit 88 RX-7 TII Daily Driver 84 RX-7 GS Driving School Beater 00 F-150 Recovery Vehicle |

Man, I should have looked at that site better myself. The next step up from the .96 tangental/undivided is the 1.71 - sounds way too big. Well SPiN, it looks like we need to keep a close eye on that turbine tach. https://www.rx7club.com/ubb/smile.gif
Hehehe, maybe we can get 3psi boost at idle? ------------------ 88 RX-7 20B/T66 Money Pit 88 RX-7 TII Daily Driver 84 RX-7 GS Driving School Beater 00 F-150 Recovery Vehicle |
