Vehicle Inspectors require blow off valve closed off

I have just imported a modified, single turbo RX7 fd from Japan and the vehicle inspectors have said that they want the blow off valve closed off. I`d like to know if this is a simple procedure, and whether it can easily be reversed after the vehicle inspection. Excuse my ignorance on the issue. I know nothing about the technical side of this vehicle.

what kind of BOV? it just needs to be routed into the intake until after you get it inspected.

Hi there, I m not sure exactly of the make, but the turbo, intercooler etc are made by stillway, a Japanese company.

Another question, is the rerouting a simple procedure, and could a mechanic do it from a normal shop, or would they need to be specialised?

hehe, rerouting it should be pretty easy for any mechanic, so long as he's dealt with turbo'd car before. Stillway is a great company, didn't they have like a 700hp FD?? that thing was crazy...lol..

Yeah, the previos owner had stillway go over the car and add an intercooler, single turbo conversion, downpipe/muffler etc. I had the car overhauled there so I hope it adds some value when I go to sell it in Oz. They seem to know their stuff! Btw, redirecting the turbo is an easy thing right?

redirecting the bov is an easy thing...unless your BOV looks like a tial. as long as the BOV has a place that looks like you could connect a 1" hose, then it will be pretty simple.

Why dont you just take off teh bov and cap off teh bov hole and then put the bov back on after teh inspection?

wantok 10-21-05 03:46 AM

Correction; the RTA require the BOV to operate silently. Is this easily done, or is it simply to simply remove it? THanks.

I would remove it and close of the hole until after the inspection. Good luck man.

Thanks all for the advice. Glad to know that it isnt a complex procedure. Cheers.

Most BOV's have an outlet flange that a hose will fit onto. This outlet is usually left open, the air vents to atmosphere, so the sound is louder. IN stock configurations, BOV's are usually vented to the intake or "recirculated" to control sound. IF you want to recirculate, run a hose from the BOV outlet and connect it to the intake tube between the air filter and the turbo inlet. With a custom single conversion, you may need to make a custom pipe or fitting with a matching inlet nipple between the filter and turbo. IT is not really mechanical, just a matter of plumbing.
