VATN Turbos

whats the deal with VATN turbos? I read about them a little in a book, but I wanna get some more info on them.

Is it possible for a non formula car to get one? does it not cost billions?!

what would be the perfect setup for a race car RX-7? within a reasonable budget

twin vatn, bridgeport, low compression, ??????????

what else?

theyre not very reliable, they break really easily, and there are other turbo manufacturers who make VATN type turbos, I believe Garrett is working on one, there are others as well
And was the book Maximum Boost?

sinfestboy 04-01-02 11:03 AM

yeah, maximum boost.
do all VATN's break easily? or just the aerochargers?

peejay 04-01-02 11:52 AM

VATN's were stock on some Dodges from about 10 years ago.

who was that guy with the MR2 that has twin VATN turbos... pouya or something like that?

anyone have info about his setup?

sinfestboy 04-01-02 05:46 PM

ok, I know they get a little risky around 10 psi, is there a way to setup twins that would get risky around 20 psi?

krazyjl 04-01-02 09:00 PM

i remember reading that because the vanes are some kind of pretty weak metal foil, they can't really withstand the hot temps of high performance engines... and considering rotaries run ever hotter than pistons, i doubt the turbine section would last long

sinfestboy 04-02-02 06:14 PM

maby if the cat was in front of the turbo? The VATN aspect will fix most of the problems.... our you could custom fabricate yourself some better foils :)
