turbonetics t72 advice

After searching and looking for ages im going single and wont some advice on the pros and cos of the turbonetics T72 manly for strip and some highway pulls so im not really expecting early spool or throtle responce, iv got all the supporting mods 1600cc 850cc, twin power, datalogit, 2x255 pumps, 10.5 ngk's, and my engine is street ported too. my question is what a/r exaust housing should i have and which trim. ive been told that a p trim and 1.00 ar exaust side should do good? any suggestions

and i was also looking for low 11s or maybee a high 10s et from this setup? and maybee someone has already tried one of these turbos can tell me what to expect. have much more mods but have no time to type em up, excuse my spelling toooo

11'S IS EASILY POSSIBLE with a little tunning 14-16 psi. A/F ratio adjuster with tunning will make it alot easier. Power wont come till the 4K mark! ive seen 450hp @ 15psi (thats with tuning + 1/2 bridge) just make sure the exhaust A/R on the turbo is .96 or higher to get the power that you want.

thanks darkphantom for the input, you said a .96 or higher hot side for my setup so what exaust Trim should that be?

bump thanks darkphantom for the input, you said a .96 or higher hot side for my setup so what exaust Trim should that be?

which manifold do i need to bolt on the T72 will the greddy or hks manifolds do i think there all the t4 flange any inputs please, will i have any cleerance problems or will the turbo bolt strait on one of these manifolds ??thanks

any inputs will be very appreciated.

bump any help please

With a compressor that large, I wouldnt run anything less than 1.0 q trim, get a decent port job to spool it to.. My turbo is alot like a T70, with a 1.0 q trim, spool isnt a problem. Max

T4 trim

darkphantom 05-13-05 10:31 PM

depending if you like lag go with a Q trim (which equals to a T88) but spools about the same

as for the mainfolds go with either greddy or hks. Or better yet if you have a good shop you go to have them do a custom mainfold & downpip yourself. A pipe is a pipe regardless + a custom one i cheaper so you can get a bigger wastegate(40mm or higher)

Power_Put 05-14-05 12:26 PM

Thanks very much for the inputs, regarding the wastegate i was thinking of the Turbosmart Pro - gate 48mm.

darkphantom you suggested i better of doing a custom Manifold and i agree so what diameter piping should i use or should i use the same diameter as My existing exaust ports any suggestions by the way my motor has a big street port and bigger exaust porting too.

Bad2ndgen 05-14-05 02:46 PM

In my opinion you should go with a divided t4 exhaust housing in a 1.15 or 1.32 Q trim. As for the manifold you should use a divided manifold from the motor to the turbo and I would reccomend using twin wastegates to keep the ports totally seperate... I will have a manifold like this availible in the next few weeks...

Just an update power put Im going to get a t72 as well but go with a q trim if you dont get a ball bearing
If you do get a ballbearing go with a Qtrim. Because i went to a shop here in MIA and the Q-T72 didnt spool till 5000rpms. the longest you want it to take to spool is 4000K and 5000K SUCKS. because my turbos are screwed im going single NE ways & im going with a T72 IMO. the company wants $900. with the p Trim. so seriously go with a p Trim. and even with a p trim its still bigger than a T78 & spool will be @3700K.
unless your a topspeed runner go with a p-trim.

look at it like this.

Ptrim vs a q trim vs a 600hp supra

with a p @ 60 youll spool more than a supra/ 100 youll be 3 car lengths ahead/ 130 youll still be spooling/150 you start to even out the turbo (most races last @140 on the kill section)

with a q @ 60 you wont be at top spool & the supra has a 1/2 length/ 80 youll just be spooling trying to play catch up/100 hes ahead by 1car/ 150 your catching up. But wait no room. YOUVE LOST & HITTING YOURSELF CAUSE YOUR OUTA SPACE.

so dont know about you but im going with a ptrim myself & stil make more power than a t78 FD

Im out!
-James.

Edit: because you have a street port that will help alot as for spooling the turbo. and as for the mainfold i would go with what bad2gen said!

Power_Put 05-19-05 08:54 AM

yes darkphantom i see what your saying, and i do agree what your saying though dont forget with a turbo that gives big top end Qtrim most probably you will raise the rev limit to above 8100rpm to about 8500 or 9000 then when you up shift to lets say 2nd to 3rd gear you then start eccelerating from 5500 rpm till redline again 9000 or whatever.

so when raising the rev limit to get the best out of the Qtrim and ported engine i dont think youll expirence alot of lag though. but then again i still have a feeling that a p trim should do better especially street drag.

and i also wont to include this, i was browseing through old threads and confermed that the t70 t72 and t76 are very similar to the HKS kits for example front compressor size and both air ratios front and back but they dont explain what trims they use or compressor maps

ill go t72 ptrim i thinks

darkphantom 05-20-05 04:26 PM

Even With A P Trim Its Still Bigger Than A T78!

Power_Put 05-20-05 11:45 PM

im a bit skeptic about surge my tuner said i dont have enough CFM so i could be running in the surge area can somone tell me how much CFM my engine makes with a big street ported motor, originally he advised me on the T66 p trim .9? a/r exaust,

anyone can shed some light on CFM against turbo size

ronbros3 05-21-05 03:57 PM

I agree with the tuner T66 Comp, P wheel in a .96 undivided housing , perfect for the street, I have bilt a few with 1.15 housings divided, and never was satisfied worked OK but laggy, last one we did was .96 with P and love the response. of course a race only turbo would be different , 91 mm comp. with a Y2K turbine and a 100 shot to spoolit, can you say 40 lbs. boost. CFM or VE in a rotary, guess stock 13bt has got to be 750 cfm, and VE race setups turbod might reach over 200%. RON

thanks for the info ronbros3
