Is this turbo worth using?
So my FC came with this mystery AiResearch turbo. Its on its way out and am trying to decide whether to rebuild it or buy a new one. Based on its specs could I get to 350hp with it??
Compressor (says AiResearch T04): 0.60 A/R, 63 Trim 55.1mm / 69.4mm Turbine (from what I gather its very similar to the stock turbine): 0.84 or 0.86 A/R? Very hard to read the ar stamping on the housing, its so worn down it took me ages to even notice its there. 74 Trim 63mm / 73mm Havent had the chance to drive the car much yet, so cant really gauge its character. It was pretty quick spooling I think. Punchy for 5psi on a 'safe' haltech base map, atleast to me. I should mention its a stockport s4 motor. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...51794a201e.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...9b7533656b.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...9926c65cfb.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...a18d303c9d.jpg |
What are the major and minor wheel diameters? Looks close to TO4B or S but diameters will let people give you pretty accurate behaviour/power ceiling.
If the bearings and seals are dead you are probably better off buying a borg warner sxe or one of the decent build quality GTX or G series clone turbos for the money/effort. There are still plenty of people running that generation of turbo though. |

I wouldn’t bother rebuilding that probably limited to ~350whp without the response of more modern stuff.
