is this turbo worth it?
 

Would it be worth getting an IHI RHB7 turbo rebuilt for $1200 AUD? Supposedly they cost $3000 new. They're rated at 380HP. Are newly rebuilt turbos of similar quality and size usually around this price?

is it rated for 380bhp rotary or piston? do you know how much air it flows or the wheel sizes?

IHI turbos are overpriced and not the greatest. For that price you can get a new turbo that would be better.

That's a lot of money for 380 hp....I bought a Holset HX40 and uit can easily get me well into the 400s but it cost me $535 USD

mate for that much $$ heaps of better options out there down here !!

go check out ausrotary FS section, turbos come up cheap and second had all the time for 1/4 that price of a similar spec :)

I bought this turbo as part of a kit and I asked the guy how much HP the car had that he took it off and this is what he said.

the car that this kit was removed from was making 389hp at the wheels on 14psi, taking into account driveline loss thats around 500hp at the flywheel. i would normally sell that turbo on its own for $750-800 s/h as it is a perfect sized combo for a s4/5 13b. responsive but without losing top end power.

So I think i'll just go ahead and get it rebuilt. For some reason the turbo actually says garrrett on the side of it. But the guy from the turbo rebuild shop said it's an IHI. Why would that be?

mate its smaller then a GT30. Yes responsive but small for a turbo on a 13b these days.

for $1200 you would buy a GT42 !! and thats a big turbo. $1200 is a absolute waist on a turbo like that. and I couldn't imagine anyone wanting to pay 750 s/h for it. and if it needed a rebuild its worthless.

if it came as a full kit, just get a new turbo.

(ps, pushing 380 hp from a 50mm / 72mm compressor is a very big ask from that turbo if it was on a 13b originally)
