turbo setup???im lost

Ok so well im a little lost on this whole turbo thing but i think i fell in love lol.
well my quesiton is what kind of turbo is good for 400hp and room to grow
the setup im thinking of running is

my car is a 88 turbo with 91 jdm motor

street port or bridge port
750 prim 1000 or 1600 sec injectors
fmic thinking of the corksport
and maybe running a Precision gt35R turbo

the turbo sounds kinda big but again i have no clue

I want to use this setup for track, autocross, drag and just plan fun

so what do you think?

Im also curious of what primary injector size you should get, I also want to run a t35 or a to4r

Alldaybored 02-23-09 01:00 AM

im getting bigger one so i can have room to grow. but i think you can get 400ish with the 550 prim its the sec that really matter for making the power but you gas goes out the window lol.
i could be wrong this is only from what ive read thou i havnt had a chance to put it into practice

Gas mileage has nothing to do with injector size if you're properly tuned. You WILL need an aftermarket EMS. GT35R is a great all-around turbo for response and power, and can get you just to 500whp if pushed and tuned properly. Stock 550 primaries (which are easier to tune for idle) and 1600 secondaries will get you well over 400 whp without much worry, no need to change out the primaries for that.

As for streetport vs bridgeport, Search it.

Excelling in either autox or drag will require both a specific suspension and power setup.
But you can do both on a general arrangment of mods.

I've only heard good things about the 35R. Its probably what I'll get next.

like a few said the 550 primaries are ok with 1600 to get you 400, but i always think what if i want more? so i would go with 1000 primaries and 1600 with ems and the gt35 you should be good. also you will need a good fuel pump. just my 2 cents

thanks guy for the input on the turbo. on the ems i was tihnking haltec cause i hear so much good stuff about them and ive going for more of the track auto x setup more, but i like the drag strip its fun. on my fuel system i plan to run 2 pumps and the 550 prim and 1000 sec for now then move to the 1600sec, and then later the 1000prim 1600 sec like what was said.
but on the porting im still not sure ive looked them up and i like both, i love the sound of the bridge, but the street port is a little more low key its still a toss up but im leaning for the bridge lol.

ok when it comes on to ems they are all good/great, i used to use haltech i had issues with it but my friends had it and didn't have any problems. i changed it and put a Wolf3D, point is an ems is as good as the tuner, so you should look into who's gonna tune the car and what he can tune. brigde port is not needed to make 400hp although i would recommend it :-).

Some people feel it is enough to be a part of a competition...me, I like to win.

I have a Haltech E6K...I used an AEM on another build and fell in love. Haltech is some really old, low resolution, DOS based shit but it gets the job done.

For a good low end...like the kind you'll want in an autocross... I'd leave the ports pretty much alone. A bridge port may be great for WOT but for daily driving and autocross you'll rarely see WOT. I'd remove the factory casting imperfections and port match the block to the LIM.
