turbo options for 500 rwhp on pump gas

Looking at what will be the best option to see 500 rwhp on pump gas. The engine is large street ported 13B-RE, S4 turbo rotors, T2 exhaust sleeves. I have been looking at the borg warner s300 series (think s400 is overkill) and garrett 4094r gt42 (non ballbearing) this is a track car but wondering what other people think.

the garrett 4094r or the gt42r sounds good for a track car. do you have the mods to support. good luck with the project

West-se 08-23-07 08:31 PM

Yes, I've got the mods to support that kind of power, right now i've got 20b lift pump in the tank, 1L surge tank, bosch 044 after that, custom fuel rails 4 x 1680cc injectors, bosch coils, microtech LT10x, all stainless fuel and vac lines. Currently I've got an HKS cast manifold which I think is gotta go, and go to a tubular manifold as well as a larger wg currently running hks 40mm standard. Right now its just adding the right turbo and going from there and seeing what kind of power it makes, and yes I know 1680 x 4 is too much fuel I've already planned to drop my primaries down to 750 or 1000's.

sounds good

meth/water injection needs to be on that list for 500 on pump gas.

West-se 08-23-07 09:42 PM

Ok, whats a realistic # on 94 w/o any addatives meth/water ?

smg944 08-23-07 10:03 PM

if you factor in the s4 rotors which have less compression i would say 450whp with the turbo you have listed 4094. which i think may still be on the high side for 94 pump fuel though. why not just step up to race fuel?

He can run more boost pressure on pump gas with those s4 rotors. 4090R should get what hes after, just depends on how good the rest of his system is..

I'd try the bullseye turbo. they have better tech support.
try www.twinsturbo.com.

1revvin7, so the trade off of the lower compression is worth it in the end? how much more boost can be made on pump with the s4 rotors? i just think if s4 rotors were the better option on pump gas you would see it more often.

Look at alot of the big drag motors from Aussie land.........................

Just because its not used on the street alot doesn't mean it doesn't work.

ill check more into it, any dis-advantages to the s4 rotors. a little less tq im assuming...

The GT42 is a good turbo for high HP applications, but it very laggy. We recently finished a car that put down 592 RWHP with a Bridgeport / GT42. This was on pump gas and Methanol around 22 lbs of boost. As I recall full boost was around 5300 RPM.
We had a GT4094R dyno around 500 RWHP at 21 lbs of boost. This made full boost around 4500 RPM and had a basic street port on the engine.
Both turbos will give you the HP, but as others have said a lot depends on supporting modifications.

Thanks for the info all. Look like I will be in the ballpark with either of those turbo's. The reason I am looking at pump gas rwhp is that I drive about an hour to the track and C16 is expensive ;) and with close to 500 at the wheels a 10 second pass is all I have prepared the car for right now. I believe I have all the mods necessary to support these #'s without a problem, I forgot to mention I am at zero sea level.

Run pump gas and get your octane when you need it :)

I just recieved a stage 2 boost cooler kit...vury noice

Edit: pushing 500whp on pump alone (even 94) is at the limits of that octane for sure.......I'd look into AI seriously if you plan on those types of numbers day in day out. Cheap insurance for an expensive setup.

Get the GT42R. I am running 501 whp on pump 93 octane with no problems. I have 7k miles on the motor too. Oh and its a halfbridge too.

Dyno sheet was posted on the 4094 somewhere in here. The spool up and everyday drive-ability make it a huge win for me! ;)

The BW S366 would be too small for your power goals. you need to look at the Borg Warner 72mm or 75mm compressor wheels. They will make the kind of power you are looking for.

BW turbos that will do it:
S372
S375
S472
S475

The S300 have a T4 flange, The S400 have a T6 flange

I love my s4's and dont notice a big lack of torque, but you will need to drive it to get used to the diffrence. Im running a 62-1 at 20 lbs and go 1.52 60 ft 10.8 1/4 at 127 mph. With 93 oct. :icon_tup:

finnicky7 08-26-07 10:24 AM

T04Z with h20.

Nuvolari 08-26-07 01:05 PM

T78 will get you to 500hp...but you need some big fuel. I am shy of 500hp but only run 17psi on 93 pump.

Street port helps and so does a nice big 3 row IC and duel fuel pumps. 850 primary/1600 secondary will give you enough to get 500 and above. Tuned right and with enough fuel you dont need the water meth mods.

what size is your hot side??
im running a 62-1 turbonetics with a .96 hotside on a TII S4 and been curious what ill be getting out of it!! hows the boost response?

Busted7 08-26-07 09:07 PM

Im running a 96 hot side too. Close guess is 480 hp at 20 lbs! I would like to try 25 but need a little more tunning first. Spooles at about 3500. rpms and with 7800. rpm launch no lagg and 1.52 60 ft times.:)
