Turbo oil leak- need some help
Have a brand new bnr stage 3 turbo for my 89 fc. the first time we installed it started leaking oil from the exhaust housing onto the exhaust manifold so we sent it back to bnr because we thought it need a rebuild. we got it back, installed it and its doing the same thing.
bnr says the turbo is fine and the turbo isn't the issue. Does anyone have experience with this. let me know thanks. we have the oil catch can installed and a oil restrictor in the oil feed line. oil pressure is about 60 psi. |
Any pics? Where is it leaking from on the hot side?

Check the oil feed and drain. Don't be afraid to use a little high temp silicone.

its hard to get pics down there.
the drain and fill are fine. it looks like its coming from where the center section meets the exhaust housing. it leaks down the exhaust housing onto the exhaust manifold. that's when it starts to smoke. |
Assuming the oil inlet and drain connections aren't the source, I see 3 potential causes.
1. Turbine-side piston ring badly worn or missing 2. High crankcase pressure (not vented properly) 3. Oil drain backed-up (improper sizing or slope) |

actually fixed it. it was the crank case pressure. the way I had it setup wasn't working out to well. we made some changes and it is good to go
