Tuned or some what

So yesterday I went to cam's place to get tuned, along with 6 or 7 other FD's. I had a Turbo smart e-boost 2 boost controller and it was all out of whack. Steve couldn't get it to work right. And soon found out It was defective. So I could only tune for 10psi. 260 to the wheels on a mustang dyno. Seems real low.
I pretty disappointed with this boost controller. I may need to return it to turbo smart or RX-7 store. Cam had a Greddy Profec type -s and I put that one in. But didn't get a chance to go back to the dyno with it in. I wish I went back, I want to see what I would have been at 15ish.

Turbosmart are known to have alot of defective products.
Suprised they havnt gone broke yet, their Quality assurance is rubbish.

Who supplied the product?

Oh Snap!!!

I have this problem with mine too, this might actually be the problem....WTF????

I doesn't matter what I do to it, it will reach a certain boost level and then fall off to 10 psi. It sucks.......I though it might be too small an A/R or something....

I bought it used so I might be screwed.....

After nothing worked I started over like the manual said, I raised the SP slowly with the sensitivity at 20 and the GP(gate pressure) at 3.0 just like it comes stock and it even to to the point where it would get to 20+psi and then fall off to 10...it sucks....

Is this similar to what is happening to yours???

Anyone have any pointers?

Have you guys adjusted the Overboost Shut down setting? I believe it's set to a factory default of around 14psi...

It does what you are describing is happening.

Hmmmm...I have not messed with that.

That might be it but mine seems to fall to under 14psi...I will look into that....it almost seems like it gets to the correct boost and then it just goes on the wastegate spring which holds about 11psi....

Can you describe where that setting is?

Thanks.

Chris

260 @ 10 psi w/ a 4 inch and 500r? That seems really low..

Wow. I think that might be it. If it is set at 7psi from the factory and it must get to half of that before resuming normal operation then that would explain the issue. My wastegate spring doesn't go below 10-11psi so because it never reaches half of the OBs setting it just sits there. I will check this parameter tonight and post back tomorrow on the progress.

Thanks a million. Hopefully this takes care of it.

The E-boosts are the most confusing things to setup, once you get the hang of all the functions they are REALLY good.

I didn't think it was that hard at all actually.

But I actually read the manual.... ;)

^That helps if you dont have A.D.D. haha

rx72c 10-20-08 05:16 PM

if you find it hard to operate an eboost.
you have a long way to go yet.

Yes, was low. Steve was saying that maybe my clutch wasn't holding up. Its a 6 puck ACT. with 1500 miles on it. So im here scratching my head. It turned out that my wheels were spinning on the rollers. So then did a 3rd. clap from the middle from the tranny and that thing was squatting down low. But still was 260??!! So im baffled.

I really wanted to see higher #'s. They said that dyno was giving out very low #'s.
I cant remember what the max was fr the day, out of 8 RX7 maybe 320 to the wheels was achieved! And there were some big dogs there too.

ChrisRX8PR 10-21-08 10:16 AM

Wow.

It turns out that setting "OBs" was set at 13psi which means everytime it got to 13psi it would attempt to bring it back down to 6.5(half) but the wastegate would only allow it to get to around 10-11psi so it would never reset.

I changed it to 22psi and the settings I had were all wrong. It inmediatly hit 20plus psi and I let go of it. I adjusted everything to where it holds 17 and it feels awesome. Its got power in areas I didn't expect it to, specifically above 7500, it feels awesome.

I cant wait to get it on a dyno again. Thanks for the help.....

And yes I have ADD and yes I did read the manual, I just though for some reason that setting came deactivated when I installed the E-boost 6 months ago....I have no idea where I got that information from :)......ADD maybe?

Thanks,

Chris

I will dyno again today to test the changes. I'll post the results.

To the OP: any breakthroughs in your particular situation?

Thanks.

Chris
