trying to solve single turbo smoking issue

Hey guys i know all the reasons why single turbo conversions smoke. And I'm thinking its because of my oil drain but i wanted to post pics up here to see what you guys think.. I checked the oil restrictor.. the one that was on there was a little bigger than it should have been but in any case i bought a new restrictor and it is still smoking pretty bad. Let me know what you guys think from these pics

you need to take clearer pics man. but it does look like you return is pretty tight and kinked. also what type of turbo do you have?

em55ron 11-05-10 10:25 PM

.65 trim t04e

so its a journal bearing turbo? if so you do not need a oil feed line restrictor. that could be part of th problem. you only need restrictors on bb center cartridge turbos.

heres better pics.. the other pic is of my oil feed... when i got my new fitting it didnt have enough depth to thread directly into the turbo like the other fitting did.. so i just threaded the old restrictor fitting into the turbo and the new restrictor on top of it.. could cause also make it smoke or should it not matter?

rxspeed7 11-05-10 10:50 PM

yea man you shouldn't run a restrictor on a journal bearing turbo

em55ron 11-05-10 10:51 PM

the car it came off of didnt smoke and the turbo was just recently rebuilt so it know its not just a bad turbo.
spec off side of turbo are t4e-bb-60-d-d-65

em55ron 11-05-10 10:51 PM

so basically if i go take that shit off it shouldnt smoke?

em55ron 11-05-10 10:52 PM

or is it my oil drain

You may need a restrictor. I need one I have a.065. Trust me
BBs run a.035ish.Dont go below.05 or youll fry it

em55ron 11-05-10 10:59 PM

thought so.. soo any more thought into why im smoking then

sweeeet! thx to drifting in drifting i undid the vaccum cap on my oil filler neck for the pcv and it cut my smoking in HALF. I think there is one on the middle iron. If i undo that one do you guys think it will do away with the rest?

Run an oil catch can. Here's what I did:
1. Buy a metal coolant resevoir off eBay
2. Buy a 1/4" one way valve, and some vacuum hose
3. Attach 3/8" hose from crankcase nipple to the bottom of the resevoir
4. Attach vacuum line to top nipple of resevoir and attach other end to vacuum source
5. Attach inline one way valve so there is only vacuum in the resevoir (this is not needed if you attach the vacuum line to the turbo intake piping)

the way I understand is the oil catch tank/resevoir is in vacuum helping to "pull" the oil from the return. As soon as I did this my smoking stopped.

sweet thanks man.. im gonna uncap it today and see if it takes care of the rest.. soon as i took the plug off the oil neck it was immensely better. so im hoping this will take care of the rest.. I WANNA DRIVE MY CAR
