Tial ss turbine housing

Anyone try the Tial housings on a large frame turbo like a GT 42 or a GT 45 ? What are your first impressions?

Zero R 01-25-10 09:55 PM

Ran them on Gt42's and 45's they are nice. I would tend to go with one on my car, actually I did :)

I wish I could get one to work on my s375. I wonder if the 83mm wheel would work well in there. If I remember correctly the 4294's run a 82.Xmm wheel...

Did you notice any differences in spool , A/F ratio etc ? do they actually flow more? whats the largest a/r available for the GT45?

Zero R 01-26-10 12:10 PM

You could recontour the wheel if you know the right shop, we've done it on certain apps in the past. That's if there isn't enough material on the housing to remove. The bigger issue is CHRA fitment more than wheel fitment. Diameter, depth etc.

Marcel, I would say it depends on what your after. There is definitely a difference on spool between the 42R and the 45R. As for as between the TiAL and the T6 the TiAL spools a bit better and is easier to fit. Right now the largest available housings are 1.0 for TiAL. They are working on getting 1.15's I don't see them outflowing the T6 overall but they do outflow the T4 a bit. I'd sacrifice the bit of top end for the weight savings and ease of install alone.

^^^ agreed. There is a 13lb weight difference between the cast t4 and the 1.0 Tial...

Marcel Burkett 01-26-10 04:14 PM

i have a 1.28 cast T4 housing on my GT45 , I dont see the 1.0 Tial outflowing it , but I could be wrong.

ScorpionT 01-26-10 04:21 PM

They are nice, but I still prefer a divided housing on a rotary. Otherwise, they are great to use.

calculon 01-26-10 05:10 PM

And on a 20B? Obviously the top-end sacrificed will be a bit more.

Zero, 1Revvin7: Stick with the T6 on the 20B applications for good top end or does the TiAl housing not cause too much backpressure? Let's say we want to see ~900rwhp.

Turblown 01-26-10 05:54 PM

Stick with a T6 for good top end on the 20b. We are putting one on a 20B currently, but the goal is 550rwhp max. Anything past 25psi and I would definitely run the T6..

Zero R 01-26-10 07:31 PM

I'd say 900whp on the TiAL on a rotary may be asking a bit much on a 42R. With simple work and tune 500whp is a nice low boost number say 10psi, at those boost levels the TiAL is a bit better overall. I think you will find the 42R on a 20B at that power level may be a bit too restrictive for your goals.

AA Ahem, whose power goals? I am running a semi PP 13B and a GT45R!

Zero R 01-27-10 09:23 AM

As I mentioned you're not going to run any better than a T6 for high power until TiAL comes out with the larger A/r's, 1.15, 1.30. You will run comparable to a T4 frame only slightly better. So..... 1.0 TiAL will do slightly better than a 1.0 T4 1.15 TiAL will do slightly better than a 1.15 T4 and so on. So if your running a 1.28 T4 it will outflow the 1.0 from TiAL.

With Semi-PP I would highly recommend a T6.

Definitely. Unless power goals are moderate, then the 1.44 would get things done.

enzo250 01-27-10 09:09 PM

If moderate then why semi-PP ? :)

Who said anything about moderate ? I want as much as she is willing to give !! The reason why I did not go with the T6 is the fact that I am also running a full PROJAY intake setup which greatly reduces the available space to fit that humongus turbine housing . I am running the T4 for now , but as soon as the larger a/r's become available , I will definately step up to a Tial SS 1.3 0r larger .

Zero R 01-28-10 10:33 AM

I fit a projay style intake with a S480 T6 in a 70 corolla it can be done ;)

Thats why I said "Unless they are moderate". lol

Why not use the 1.44 and stick with the T4? It will perform better than a Tial and flow more than their 1.3 housing.

I would really like it if someone decides to do some testing and post their findings.

Has anyone tried the Tial SS on a GT45? how does it boost?. At present I have a 1.22 cast/divided turbine housing making 690RWHP @ 20Lb's on a 20B. Will a 1.05 Tial flow, boost OK? looking to loose some weight.
