T78 clutch options
Hey guys. I have a 93 FD with a fresh Greddy T-78 kit. I hve a new 6 puck clutch, but I think I want to throw on a twin disk setup. I have been looking at this one on the Mazdatrix website... http://www.mazdatrix.com/r-clutch-flywheel.htm . I am looking at the 5.5" V-Drive, 2 disc. It is made by Quarter Master. Price is $608. What do you guys think? Any experiences with them? I'd like to know if they can handle upwards of 500 RWHP.

Sorry I cant help on your question, but how do you like the t78. Dont mean to thread jack but do you mind posting your numbers and setup. Thanks

I will let you know REAL soon. I need a nice clutch and then I will be on the road. I will have Cam at Pettit tune it with my power FC. I have the 850/1600cc setup. I wass gonna run dual walbro's, but now I am thinking about doing a custom Aeromotive A1000 pump setup. Other than that, I have Dual 25-row Mocal Oil coolers w Tstat, Border Racing FMIC, HUGE Griffin 3 row radiator, banzai oil pan brace, motor mounts and omp elimination, hmmmm. EVERYTHING else on the car is BRAND NEW. My Mazda dealership knows my voice when they answer, it is THAT bad, haha.

As for the original question, I was running Os giken twin TS2B and STR2C and they both held up very well. Not a single issue, hope it helps |

The EXEDY Twin Disc Clutch Kit ZM022SD is an outstanding clutch. It is exactly what I have on my personal 20B FD, it handles all the power that the engine can provide. We have the clutch kits in stock.

Oooooh my.... Sorry Banzai. I recently puchased an oil pan brace, motor mounts, and omp elimination kit from you and I was pleased. The ONLY (and kinda major) downside, was that I HAD to use paypal as a payment method. I HATE PAYPAL. Period. Today, I actually purchased the Exedy twin disk cerametallic kit from Jason at RX7Store.com. It should be arriving in a couple days and I am EXCITED!!!

wow I dont think I could pay 1600 for a clutch either, hope I dont change my mind like you did lol I plan on going t78 also. Good luck and hope everything works out. maybe you could do a write up if you have the time. Ive never installed a twin disc before.

haha, Yes I bit the bullet and paid $1,600 for that bad boy. But I have done my research and that is the best option. A LOT of shops are using them on their 20B setups, so I figured it would handle a measly 2-rotor haha. Exedy's website states, "The multi plate clutches are rated up to 800+ foot pounds of torque at the flywheel." Hell, sounds good to me.
I DO plan on doing a full write-up on my car build. I took detailed pics EVERY step of the way. And I worked for a couple professional race teams that won many championships. I built many IMSA Lite racecars that used multi-disk clutches and Porsche GT3 Cup Cars that also used multi-plate clutches. They are not hard to install at all. |

i had a singel plate Xtreme clutch on my t78 engine, the DSHB or something like that. it was pretty nice in traffic, and hold the 500rwhp good.
changed to a twinplate HKS, its loud and not as good in traffic, but needs it this winter when the power goes up! |
