T04s04 = 450+ Rwhp
I am having TEC here in Golden, CO, build a turbo for me. They are thinking that a T04S04 will be big able to produce 450 RWHP at ~1.2 bar on a street-ported engine. Now they won't release the exact compressor and turbine housing sizes yetr, but they say "...they are on the large side." I am assuning somewhere along the lines of a .84 comp. and 1.32 ex.
Any one have any thought on this? There are a couple of other options that I am going to be talking to them about also. Thanks, Jeremy |
Wow! that's a big exhaust a/r! I hope they have a really aggressive wheel. Correct me if i'm wrong about the a/r size.....isn't the T88 a 1.15?

physical size has nothing to do with the A/R size,
you could have a TD04 with a 1.5A/R exhuast housing and it'll only flow 1/4 the exhuast gas of a T04 0.8A/R exhuast housing. now if i recall correctly the T88 uses an exhuast housing slightly larger than a normal T04. and guys out there are using 1.32A/R exhuast housings on T04 - To very good effect (590HP @ 19psi) exhuast A/R signifies total flow capacity and spool up times when comparing one exhuast housing to another PROVIDED it is in the same family of housings |
Thanks HWO! I'm still learning about the details of turbo's....i've always left it up to the turbo "specialist" and never really got to deap. I've just always heard that the a/r effects spool up and total flow but didn't realize that the numbers were different between the makers.....seems like it would be a standard thing.....learn something new everyday:D

A/R ratio is just one factor... comparing one turbo to a different type of turbo based solely on A/R would be like trying to judge the speed to two different cars based on how big the throttle bodies are.

If they told you it's a T04S04, then your compressor wheel is set.  You already know the turbine A/R.  It's just a matter of finding out what your turbine wheel size is - it's most likely a O-Trim or a P-Trim, possible clipped.
