T04E or T04S come on help a guy out

Well im ready to go single turbo on my 93 Rx7 and have narrowed my choices to either the T04E or the T04S by XS enginerring. I can't seem to decide between the two so i was hopeing maybe you guys can help. The engine internals are stock no streetport or upgraded seals. I will be running the power FC with secondary injectors and a upgraded inline fuel pump. I havent purchased the injectors or the fuel pump yet but will when I decide on turbo any suggestions. I have the Apexi GT FMIC for the intercooler. The car is driven a couple times a week on the street and sees alittle track time. Im looking for a reliable turbo kit that will produce 11 second ETs and still be reliable enough to drive daily if needed. Ive seen dyno stats on both turbos and both are impressive but I still cant decide. I just rebuilt my motor 2000 miles ago so im trying to do it again anytime soon. Thanks for the help !!!

Me too

I was in the same situation, and have since decided to go with the T04E for the quicker response of the turbo. My car is my daily driver & my particular driving conditions is more reliant on a nice responding turbo, high hp is not much of a factor where I live as the stretches of road to take advantage of a high peak hp is few & far in between. 410hp sounds nice but I'll probably hardly get to use it.

In the future, if I so desire, these Garrett turbos have a myriad of interchangeable parts available, I could change the turbine housing wheel trims, etc. for more airflow & power.

SIDESTICK:

I also decided on the TO4E i talked to XS and this the way they pointed me. They said the E is capable of 400 hp tuned right and has very little lag. So this is what im going with. Is there any one on the forum that has this kit? Have you heard in 1/4 mile ETs on it. Thanks Guys.

So, what did they say about the T04s? How much lag difference?

I was going to get the T04S but for the same reasons as you stated previously I am switching my order to the T04E. Worst case, if I am not happy with it I can always either have it upgraded or buy the bigger turbo later. That's the nice thing about Garrett turbos... no offense to the guys running the Greddy or Apexi turbo kits.

Where did you see dynos on both turbos at? I saw the dyno of the T04e on the XS Engineering site. The HP ratings have a lot of overlap, which makes it kind of hard to decide. My engine is stock, no porting, and 2mm apex seals also. I would like to have low 11's or 11 flat 1/4 mile times. I think that would require about 400 HP with a good driver;) But it is also my "preferred" daily driver. If the T04e can do that for me, then I would probably go for it. The T04e HP starts at 280 up to 560, and the T04s 360 and up to 630. Wouldn't it be more efficient to run a lower boost to get more HP? Explanations/advice are welcome. TIA.

Long: the T04S dyno stats are under XS website under Team XS go to Peter Yeung i think it should be there. Im in your boat all the way im looking for 11 sec daily driver without any porting XS said the T04E is well capable of these numbers with hardly any lag. That sold me.

The T04E is a great choice for steetcars- I've been using one on my 1st gen RX 7 since the mid eighties and have installed and tuned most of the other popular turbo systems-T78, T04S04, RX6, etc. and I still like the response of the "E" series the best. Its quite capable of producing 500 plus hp.

i have a stock 1993 Rx7 with 90K on a rebuild. I am going to rebuild the engine with a street port, but am undecided between the T04S and T04E. I called XS and the 2 turbos seem pretty similar. XS said the T04S would only have a 400 rpm difference when the turbos start to spool. I am leaning toward the T04S with its greater potential to produce HP. Does anyone think the 400-500rpm lag is worth the larger turbo?

I've seen the dyno graphs on the T04e and I am impressed. I'm not going to be interested in 500+RWHP, my reason is it will blow up my little 1300 cc rotary. I want great street performance.

This kit is great after 3.5 rpms and that is good enught for me.
