T04B .70 S Trim / 1.0 P Trim Divided
 

I just picked up this newly rebuilt turbo for a good price. What do you guys think of this thing for a stock port TII motor? Only looking to make 300-350hp with decent spool. Manifold will be divided. External Wastegate.

crap, it's not a .70 compressor housing...it's a .60
anyone have any input?

300 is a stretch, 350 is a pipe dream.

but you could always have it upgraded with an h-trim wheel and get 350 out of it.

You're lucky to get 200...maybe 250 tops, unless we're talking about boost levels above pump gas ranges.
It's basically the same size as the stock FC turbo Hitachi HT-18...

I got a 60-1 compressor TO4B with a .96 P-trim exhaust wheel and got 308 RWHP/ 228 FT/lbs of TQ ...93 octane...15 psi. Good port, but little to no overlap, if that paints a good pic for you. oh and E6K.

I like the idea of changing to an H trim wheel and compressor housing. Is that something I can just bolt on myself or does the whole thing need to be rebalanced?

should be rebalanced.

you can get away with not balancing it on a turbo that small, but it will help longevity.

i got 301 whp @ 9 psi on one motor, and 306 @ 11 psi on another with stock s5 hot sides and the t04b/h-trim combo. the one that did it on 9psi i was told was a "super h", instead of the normal h-3 wheel, but i've never seen a compressor map for it, so maybe the guy was blowing smoke up my ass.

If your going to go through the trouble of changing out compressor wheels, might as well get something worth while. The T04B series compressor are old school and not as efficient as even the T04E wheels (which still have some age). So looking for a 300~350 at the wheels with a quick spool, look at getting a T04E 57 or 60 trim. The 60 trim will top out around 380-ish @ 16~18 psi (there are some who reach 400 mark with the t04e 60). If you want a little room to grow with your turbo a 60-1 wheel will yield 300~350 at a lower boost pressure (10~13 psi) but will spool slightly slower (and max out at around 450 at the wheels from 17~20 psi). Any wheel you pick will require a matching backplate and comp cover or machining of your original backplate and cover. Whatever wheel you pick, try and get the T04S comp cover verses the T04B or T04E. It flows more air and is better suited for a rotary engine. Balancing isn't a must, but is a good idea for longevity. Generally the LARGER the turbo, the least important the balancing (speaking journal bearing turbo's, all ball bearing need precise balancing). The smaller and higher spininng t3,t25 all get a vsr balance, while larger T4 just get assembled with only higher end companies doing a full dynamic balance.
