T-78 Leaking oil, why?
I just had the whole turbo rebuilt. What would cause it to leaking oil on exhaust housing side? It leaks into the housing, and drips from the clamp and onto the flange on the header. There are no miles on the turbo, just idle only. It has leaked from the beginning of the install....

Bad rebuild and your asking the wrong people i would be on the phone the the rebuilder!
|
I ship it back to majestic turbo tomorrow. Just seeing if anybody had same problem.

|
I have had friends have problems with there rebuilds!
|
suggestion on who can fix it, if they don't?
|
you sure the clamp was tight?
|
Yep, tighten all the way down.....

Is majectic a turbo rebuilder shop or a speed shop/motorsports?

It may or may not be the turbo.
However rebuilding a turbo is NOT as easy as replacing some seals and bearings. It takes experience to know if a shaft is worn out, or if there are other areas that will cause problems. Pitting in seal ares, excessive clearances, etc etc. |
Well the people that rebuilt the turbo are saying that the turbo's clearances are to spec, and the turbo is pretty much brand new. I asked then why would it leak. like it does...and it's not just a small leak. They cannot give me a reason why. I just paid for the whole turbo to be rebuilt, new shaft, wheel, seals, etc. They are hinting to me that I must have increased the inlet size and that is what is causing turbo to leak. TOO much pressure they say. But its the same set up I have been running for the last 6yrs, and this is the first time for this issue.
So my next question is, if you can have this problem do to higher oil pressure. I have stage 3 oil mods done by pineapple racing. If anything the pressure should be down from a stock motor do to the mods done. Any thoughts?? |

hmmm...I have had my t78 rebuilt from them and no issues. Are you dealing with majestic in Wako texas or dallas texas?
*I would also check your oil return line!! I had almost an identical issue. Everything looked perfectly fine, but there was a kink in the return line which caused oil to leak inside the turbo. I had to install the turbo and physically feel the return line to feel the kink. Little issues=big headaches! Hope this helps |
Thanks!! I have a couple of things to check
1. Kink in drain hose??(it goes striaght to the block, under the metering pump) 2. Crank case pressure(keep from oil draining)? 3. Oil pressure to high(dont think so, one of the other two) the turbo is coming back to me by Friday. We will see.... |
