Aspec tuning, how do you figure it will compare with the Gt35/40?

Steve is going at it again! Steve has tried almost all the turbo kits out there. t78, t51rkai, rx-6, gt3540, to4r. I think his opinion on the twin turbo kit will be the most accurate. Can you share with me a just a little bit of your wealth so I can be as cool as you?? haha..

The info i got from Sean is as follows:

GT25 series twins, $4399
GT28 series twins, $5100
Polished snails $175
Ceramic coating $150

I've asked re: group purchase discounts and he wants to see how many before committing to a discount level.

It would seem to me that the power level is really all roughly the same. I mean, it seems that pretty much all the good turbo setup T78, Gt35/40 etc make roughly 400HP at around 15 psi boost. I would imagine the big factors are the efficiency of the turbo in a particular operating range ie it heats the intake charge less, giving more dense air and then the how quickly the turbo can spool to flow the air.

I believe there is only so much one can do on pump gas before you start seeing detonation and 400-450 HP seems to be about the limit with "pump" gas and without any special tricks. Get a super efficient turbo to compress the air with minimal heat input and you'll make more power. Or do water injection of some sort.

All that said, I would be most curious to hear the response characteristics of this setup. I would think the biggest advantage of a twin setup is the ability to spool a smaller turbo more quickly to get more rapid boost response.

For me the 400HP on the street is more than enough, it's just a function of how quickly you can get there.

hey i looked up the specs on the gt2835s. the turbos ( depending on which kind they use) will have a 380, 400, 410, or 420 ps output each. the t51-r KAI has an output of 800ps. so the power should be similar, maybe more due to the increased efficency of twins. it should also have a much better spool up than a T51-rkai. according to rx7store.net the t51-rkai makes 475rwhp at 15 psi, so if the twins should make the same or more due to the increased efficiency. but my best guess would be within 25 hp of that number if rx7store.net is correct.

I dunno. Are the twins more efficient over the operating range? If they are infact more efficient then I would expect the potential for slightly better top end. I say potential because part of the problem is that whatever the "top end" happens to be is largely dependant on the manifold and exhaust design.

If you haven't already check out my other long winded post here:

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=161657

Where'd you see the maps for these turbos?

Also, I think I read somewhere that the HKS t51 is very nearly a Gt42? Fact or Fiction? I dont' have numbers in front of me for wheel diameters etc...

Well, your on the right track but the big piece of the puzzle your missing is the efficiency range (not just peak) of the turbos. I have no idea what the compressor maps look like for these turbos so I can only speak in general terms. Turbo x might flow 400cfm but at what boost level? That is the question, do you need to run 30psi to get the 400cfm??? The large turbos you mentioned flow good cfm at a realitivly low boost, they start really flowing good around 13-14psi and seem to be very efficient at 15psi. I have no idea how the cfm of these twins compares to the larger turbos when in the lower boost ranges.

Hopefully they are real efficient at low boost and people can make great power at a low boost setting....time will tell

How would the large twin setup be controlled? ECU settings ecu. THe stock twins had such a complcaited system. How would you go about conotrolling these twins with say a haltech or pfc etc...

treat them as if they are a single, because they are paralell.

So whats the deal, you guys get a set installed and dynoed yet??? Can you guys give any updates?

Aspec posted pics of the turbo's, dp, manifold and all that like 3 months ago. They even have discoloration on the pipes like they had been ran and tested

I see so the plan is to boost them at once.. But with each with it's own exhasut it should spool quicker then a typical large single. Wow thats gonna pack quite the punch....
