Stickiest tires for street driving??
 

I just received my car back and is in need of some sticky tires. I have 17x9 rims and was thinking about getting some bf goodrich or some nitto's. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Well what kind of driving are you going to do? Are you looking for something thats going to be good for straight line driving or a good cornering tire?

I love my BFGoodrich G Force KDs---I run 275s out back. Dry traction is outstanding, and in the wet I'm able to limp the car home if caught in a rainstorm. To give you an idea, on my current setup at 15 psi I am able to pretty much keep traction through all of second gear, the car surges forward and you can feel them scrambling for grip but they hold on. I decided to try these after seeing all of the 600+ rwhp Supras in the dallas area using these tires.

i forgot to ask you Rich, what size did you run up front b/c i know i cannot fit 275 in the front...

245/40/17 in the front and 275/40/17 in the back. Here's a recent pic that does a pretty good job of showing the stance these sizes give you:

Rich is right the BFGoodrich G Force KDs are good street and cornering tires.

When I owend my TA I had both the BFG Drag radials and the nittos. The BFGS are marginally better but cost more. I dont know if there worth it over the nittos. I have not used the mickey tompson et streets but I have heard very good things about them but they cost a pretty penny as well.

Those are all good straight line tires, but they dont work if you want to take a sharp corner and there even worse in wet weather.

I also run the BFG KD's. I've had no complaints with them yet and they've seen both straight street driving as well as some road course/auto-X time.

For corners I'd go with something like a Toyo RA-1 or Falken Azenis, but you'll just have to keep in mind they probably won't last too long on the street.

I agree with GoodFella. I have BFGs on two of my three cars and I'm really impressed. I had KDs on my Miata for awhile and they were GREAT tires for dry tarmac and occasional track day...just as sticky as Azenis, but they lasted almost twice as long. It rains around here in the winter though, so I chose KDWs for the FD.
The best tires I've driven on in the rain, hands down. They are damn good on dry days too, but in the rain, the really come into their own.

I have the Falken Azenis RT615. I haven't gotten a chance to drive them much but this particular tire has never disappointed me before in terms of grip. They also run rather wide. I run 255/40/17 all the way around...They aren't the greatest in the rain, you have to be pretty careful but dry traction really can't be beat for the price.

Michelin Pilot Sport Competition Cup tires will probably trump any other street legal tire in that department.

Wow, the price/piece on those BF's are no joke and the price I looked at were only for 17's @ $245 piece, unless I looked at it wrong. I'm no tire expert, but are these considered low pro's, the tire pix on Rich's car look fat.

He's talking about straight line traction, though. Michelin PSCs are great road racing tires, but as such they have very stiff sidewalls and aren't the best for straight-line acceleration.

My bet is to go with the Nittos 555R drag radials. I know a teacher of mine who had a 400hp 240Z and he used 275/50/15 555Rs and they worked great for him. Do watch out when it starts raining though.

They are a great road racing tire, but I know a couple people in my area (one with a 900hp 996) who are mainly into straight line racing and use them on the street with very satisfying results.

falken rt-615

bfg g force, good tire lots of fun for 430 whp, keeps me on the road , but i only got about 7000 miles on my last set though

I also loved my old S02s, unfortunately they discontinued them and the S03s weren't as sticky.

You might also want to look into the Yoko Advan Neova AD027s, I've heard great things about them, of course, they aren't cheap :). They aren't too much more than the KDs in the size you're interested in, and they're rated #1 in that category.

I'm daily driving the RA-1 and I love them. Great in the rain as well, but bad when cold on cold blacktop. When I say bad, I mean back to what you would have all the time on a 200 treadwear street tire- but it can get you in trouble as you are used to superhero grip.

I hadn't expected such awsome wet grip from the RA-1.

Buy them in winter for the tread depth and they will be shaved height for spring if you daily drive them :)

My GF just got the Azenis RT-615 opn her Miata and they seem VERY nice for a 200 treadwear tire. Pick up nearly as many pebbles as the RA-1 though- not used to that on a street tire...

I run the Azenis RT-615 on my Cobra. So far I have about 5k miles on them and they are about half worn. Pretty sticky for a street tire, but nothing is really going to hook with 500 ft/lbs of torque under 3000 rpm. Cornering grip is good and stable. Not very good in the rain but manageable. Don't even try to drive on them in ANY amouint of snow. The car will not move. The other downside is because they are so soft they are easily damaged by sharp rocks and other debris .

No offense, but he's looking for a tire for a 450-500 rwhp car. Is either your fb or fc forced induction/high hp?

I run the Kumho MX's and they have been really good for traction in the summer.
For the price, you cant go wrong. 275/40/17 in rear, 235/45/17 in front

You're not having traction issues trying to put down 560 rwhp on those?

Granted the weather has been pretty cold, but at 15 psi I was having minor wheelspin all the way through 2nd gear, and even in third gear the car felt a little squirrely......this is with identical rims and rear tire sizes, but with BFG KD's, which I've always felt were stickier than the MX's.......
