are SR maps any good?

Does anyone use ray's maps for th Power FC? Are they any good for a single turbo set up or is it absolutely essential to have the car dyno tuned with a single?

ive heard some bad things about SRs maps. also, it is MUCH better and safer to actually dyno tune the car, rather than just switching maps. i would drive down to XS in LA and get it tuned. and it just so happens that they are arguably the best PFC tuners in the country.

Goblin 03-29-02 04:37 PM

I've had them on my PFC before. Forget about the "mail in your computer and I'll program it for you." They were way, WAY rich. The second I tried to go WOT, I'd get nothing but backfiring. It was ugly. I had to just re-init the computer and go from scratch. Money down the drain.

If you can actually go to SR and get tuned though, I expect you'd be fine.

If only ray would do it. I have a friend who lives in the bay area and wanted ray to dyno tune his car but he wouldn't do it, so he had to drive to XS engineering to have it done. I live in the bay area as well so it would be better for me to drive to brentwood rather than LA to have my car tuned, but if ray won't do it, then I guess i'll just drive to XS.

Does Ray have a dyno in his barn behind his house? Or does he go into town to use a dyno at a real shop?

Remember Rays dyno claim on his web page not long ago ! how funny was that, then he changed the shit after I/we exposed it :)

Sounds like a moron.

He changed nothing. All he did was list his mods for the crybaby's that didn't believe him.

Can someone elaborate on this for people like me who don't know what you guys are talking about? I'm considering buying parts and giving him some of my business here but if he's shady then I'm not gonna even bother.

Ray is a stand up guy and you can't go wrong by doing business with him. His customer support is by far the best I've seen.
Some people got pissy when he advirtised a dyno result of 540rwhp with his stage 2 single turbo so he then posted on his site what mods were done to the car besides the single turbo to achieve that power. Thats all. People got pissy, I suppose, because they couldn't get that kind of power out of their single turbo kits. I have Ray's single turbo kit and will be dynoing next week at 20lbs so we'll see what kind of power I lay down. The only thing I don't have that his car did is water injection.

There was also the "Buy your PowerFC from SR and pay $300 more than you would anywhere else because you'll get free maps for the lifetime of the unit for any mods you add after the PowerFC" that turned out to actually be "Pay $300 more than anywhere else and then still pay $80 an hour if you send it back in for new maps."

That bit of action killed my interest in further dealing with SR and answered any questions I personally may have had about anyone's stand up nature.

or howabout the SR Ultimate radiator that he ripped people off for $699 back in the day while it was actually a KOYO piece..i guess he finally got smart and is selling them now for $429

Ive never had any bad deals with any RX7 tuner. Peter back in the day set up my PMC, along with the install on the exhaust, intake, IC. Granted in time I realized his prices were kinda high...like Pettits. Pettit was great getting the AST to me quickly. Tripoint always answered my questions on spring rate, etc. Racing Beat's web site ordering hasn't failed me yet, quick shipping. M2 was alittle slow on the flywheel, clutch but the intake, intake pipes, and Med IC came right when I ordered them along with my stage 3 ecu. I called Ray and got my PFC, upgraded turbos (out of house job) resonated MP, and 1300 injectors. Everything was shipped fast, but the turbos turned out to be out of spec on one housing, he's taking them back in to look at them without getting defensive about it. He's handled my business relationship pretty good, better than M2 about shipping. I still like Brian though, you get him on the phone and damn, he loves these cars so much, he'll talk your ear off:)
