sizing custom radiator
 

Hi.
I'm trying to figure out how i can get around having a custom radiator built for me, so im searching for OEM radiators that are about the size I am looking for.

So far, i have found these cars have the right spec radiators:

00-05 toyota celica
91-97 jeep cherokee
00-03 chevy impala

and possibly those tall skinny hotrod radiators used on old 32' fords.

I have about 14x33 inches of overall space to work with, and it needs to flow the long ways.


my concern here is, will one of these cars' aftermarket aluminum radiators be able to control the amount of heat out of a very high hp rotary? None of them are rated for any HP numbers, so I'm not to sure. What if i stacked two of them together to make a core twice as thick?

I spent as much money on my AN plumbing as I did on my custom Griffin race radiator, so you may want to at least get a quote before you completely write-off a custom radiator. Sometimes they give a discount to sponsored racers. ;)

You can stagger two radiators if needed, but I think that stacking them together isn't such a great idea, especially if this is for a street car. Also, used radiators do not have the cooling capacity of a new radiator, so a junk yard radiator is not a good idea for a high-output application if that is your intent.

Funny, I just put that exact radiator on my "to do" list just last night.

On their website they have it listed in their 0-400hp ranged radiators

You can move up to 1.25" or 1.5" tubes for more cooling. See the Griffin radiator selector here, and just choose your size and hp range:

Since your small size is billed as "drag race" radiators, you may want to contact Griffin (or whatever other manufacturer you may choose) to make sure they will work OK on the street.
