Single Turbo vs Upgraded Twin Configs
 
OK...In my search for the optimal Road Course/Track Race application I've been researching what kind of Turbo Upgrades to get.

From what I've learned up to this point, it seems that the best way to go for Single turbo would be HKS T04S or Apexi Rx6 Isamu as the Greddy T-78 and HKS T51R KAI don't come on fast enough, and once they do come on, the power is too heavy and breaks the wheels lose.

However...I have seen Discriptions for upgraded twin turbo applications, and I'm wondering what would be the better set up --not taking cost into consideration.

One of the things that made me wonder about the possiblities of upgraded twin configs was in an article by Turbo Magazine which featured a heavily fixed up 13B engine bay running a T-78. At the end of the article the guy said his future plans for modification include getting a 20B and setting it up with twin HKS GT3037S's...

I really don't know much about twin turbo upgrades, so if anyone has any info on configerations or pros and cons for parallel or sequential set ups, I would greatly appeciate their insight.

IMO, seq twin turbos are not the best thing for a road course. The single turbos have a much more linear power band whichs makes the car much more predictable coming out of a turn. Twin turbos have a small dip in power then a huge increase in power when the second turbo comes on line. I have never driven a car with upgrades twins, but my car is more predictable now with a single turbo then it was with the stock seq twins.

This isssue has been debated many times, but I think it basically comes down to this.

None of the vendors who offer upgraded twins have been willing or able to post results dyno numbers for what they are offering. You hear a lot of "SHOULD", "RATED FOR" and so on. If you are asking $1700 to $3000 plus a useable core for your product you should offer up some dyno sheets or something. SR Motorsports got flamed badly for some high HP claims on a kit until they posted dyno results and the other mods needed to hit this figure. :bigthumb:
Surely one of these other places can afford to put their product on a car and compare against the stock turbos.

Just my two cents, I've delayed the turbo upgrade as long as I could hoping to see some results, but it looks like I'll be going with a fast spooling single.
