single turbo setup

i parted out my single turbo setup.....and i am looking to having a custom setup fabricated...i all ready talked to the shop that i want to do all the work for me

but as they don't have much experience with internally wastgated turbos on rotary i though i ask here

this is what i wanna do single ATP gt35r internally wastgated with 5 bolt bellhousing

i wanna reduce number of connections and run a short runner manifold - (if possible ) also will be running Bonez 3" high flow cat and RB dual tip exhaust, GM air pump...and v-mount... looking for more OEM look and fitment

dose anyone rune a large internally wastgated single turbo ....

do you guys have any problems with boost creep or any other problems any information from personal experience would be appreciated....

i contacted atpturbo this is what they said

" The rotary needs a lot of gate that is for sure, but the 1.06 A/R housing with some porting to enlarge the wastegate hole will work well on that application because we have seen it done for single turbo applications on a V6 and some V8's even.

Do it ! "

Very interested to see your results. Did you look into any EFR options to see what kind of varity you could get?

still trying to work out the turbo size i want...i will probably stick with gt35r but wouldn't mind bit more quicker spool...so might go with slightly smaller turbocharger..

main reason for going to this trouble...well...goal is to stop all the exhaust leaks and reduce number of connections.... i wasn't happy with TIAL 44mm wastgate as the flange was letting exhaust gas leak out and you can tell that by black spots on the flange

EFR... i didn't look in to it to much... borgwarnerd EFR seem to be to small for rotary...

but i did look in to precision turbochargers they got a lot of internally wastgated options might go with one of there turbochargers

but something i have been considering now for a while is running a large Vortech Superchargers

Chances are there was too much heat used when welding the vband flange. If not, its probably only leaking SLIGHTLY under full boost, not at idle/cruise etc..

If you don't mind NOT being able to run low boost, lets do it ! I am curious myself to see how it works out...

Chances are it won't creep with a catalytic converter in there, similar to how the OEM twins with a cat...

Hey Serb what's the word, any movement or decisions made yet?

serbRX7 01-30-12 08:14 PM

i purchased new Bonez 3" high flow cat and really low mileage RB dual tip exhaust for a really good price here on the forum

looking for bargains...i have posted some WTB threads

not going to rush this time... it might take me few years going to build it from ground up...will post as i go... i am keeping my eye on for sale section

didn't make any decision on the turbo charger...tho precision turbochargers got my interest at the moment

(part of me wants to ditch the forced induction and get the drama over with... to make up for the power loss i would swap a 3rotor n/a)

in mean time i am rebuilding my rx8 engine... getting it ready for this summer

If you get a Precision, be sure to get a DBB type. Its worth the extra money.

talked with Precision hers is there response

catalog

"Please see attached catalog. Based on our conversation, I think a 5862 would be a good option. We can build it with a T3 5 bolt housing that has a wastegate hole. You will need to source the flapper assembly.

PTB505-5862 THF3-62W - $999.99 (58/78) compressor , (71/61) turbine
PTB505-5862 B THF3-62W - $1599.99 (Ball Bearing)
PBO081-1005 - Standard Duty Actuator - $81.99
PBO081-1007 - Heavy Duty Actuator - $81.99"

what do you guys think

serbRX7 03-08-12 05:53 PM

now this is what i want

Turbine Wheel: 67mm 84 trim .84ar or 1.0ar housing t4 divided

Compressor Wheel: 84mm 54 trim .70ar housing with 4" inlet and 2.5" outlet

basically internally wastgated t04r but no one makes it
