Single Turbo: More Lag?

I know that for 99% of people on this site this is a retarded question but I'm kinda new to all this.

Obviously you can get a hell of a lot more power out of a large single set up vs. the twins, but is there a lot more lag in spool time? What are other cons to single? Like I said it probably sounds stupid to ask, but I'm trying to learn.

Somebody with more knowledge correct me if i'm wrong;

It has to do with the size of the turbo and boost levels. An Apexi RX-6 is a smaller single turbo with a relatively quick spool time....compared to a Greddy T-78 which is larger, takes longer to spool but can produce more hp.

A good ball bearing turbo like a GT35R will spool pretty quick, faster than a T-78 for sure. Weather it will spool as fast as the stock twins I don't know but I'm betting it will be pretty close.

spool time depends greatly on your setup as well.

pro's are that you will simplify your engine bay. that rats nest and oh so many vacuum lines will not be giving you a hard time.

Reliability SHOULD be better due to not having to push the turbo as hard to get a decent amount of power out of it.

Example: with the twins boosting at 15 psi, you will increase your hp to the three hundreds, but thats already pretty high for the twins...if you want to boost more to lets say 18 psi, the twins will not handle it well in the long run. with the single turbo, lets say a gt35r ball bearing, you could get better numbers at 15 psi than the twins, as well as turn up the boost and still be relatively safe.

In other words, if you have the money, time and patience, go single IMO
