Single and quieting the exhaust

I know for a fact that the exhaust is going to be very loud. I have the HKS Super Dragger and of course a mid-pipe. i am going to weld the wastegate dump tube into the downpipe to start.

I would like it to be as quiet as possible since I live in a townhouse complex. Has anyone used Pettit's or SRX-7's resonated mid-pipe? Any suggestions for a cat-back that may be quieter?

Besides your stock exhaust? LoL. Try the Greddy SP. Plenty of power, without the loud grumble. Carl...

You may want to look into the silencer that Borla makes. Everyone says they cant tell a difference in power but a huge difference in how loud the exhaust is.

The Borla XR-1 mufflers are only about $130, and they should quiet things down a little. If your motor is ported the car is going to be loud no matter what exhaust you have.:D

if you want the quietest, you vent the wastegate back into the exhaust system, get a resonated midpipe or install a Borla XR-1 in the midpipe, and run a Racing Beat Dual Tip exhaust sytem. that will be just about the quietest single turbo setup possible.

Thanx for the input!!

Townhouse = single turbo with street port ???

This spells trouble. I have a single with street port. It has the Greddy SP. The exhaust rumbles very loud - not as loud as some of the singles I have heard though...

The Greddy SP is supposed to be one of the quietest exhausts out there. Even with this exhaust, the car is definitely not a sleeper anymore!

Hope this helps.

There are two Borla mufflers worth considering for midpipe silencer. The XR-1 Sportsman is louder but less expensive, and the XR-1 Race is the quietest XR-1 but costs $230 or so. I got a XR-1 Race 16" long oval with 3" in/out and plan to put that in my midpipe for maximum quieting. I've got a older Racing Beat dual tip muffler, which is supposed to be the quietest cat-back system. I think the new RB dual tip is slightly louder but flows better, and is likely still the quietest cat-back. Rotary Performance in Texas said at one point that the GReddy Power Extreme was quieter than the SP, but they are probably both pretty reasonable. I used to have a Power Extreme and it sounded great (quiet at low RPM, roared at high RPM) but I got tired of the big tip.

Header wrap on the turbo downpipe might also reduce the noise level, but may reduce its life. I might try this if it is still too loud after I install the XR-1.
