Smile RX-7 Single Turbo Build Advice

Hey guys. Im looking to run a BW s366 on my fd rx-7. im only looking to run 14psi at this stage with 1000cc primary's and 1650cc secondaries with an after market fuel pump of some sort (not too sure at this stage, havent looked into it.) and other supporting mods. Was wondering what kind of manifolds would you suggest running for this kind of setup. and what kind of WG would be best, it seems that alot of people run dual WG's for S366's. Also wondering if any of you guys had issues with clearance and if i should look into getting solid engine mounts?

you have fuel for 544 hp at 11.0 AFR and a 600+ hp turbo so do be very careful. i personally would not play that hand. if anything w re to fuel you want more rather than less. this also assumes you have the right pump and 13.5 V+ to the pump. dual 44 or one 60 on a properly engineered manifold work. nothing less. there is the S300 66 and the S300 SXE 66.... the SXE has a larger (8.375) compressor housing. both are excellent turbos IMO.

I have an A-Spec short runner with a single wastegate and a GT4088R, which I believe is larger than the BW you’re considering running. The packaging is super tight. I think for “large” turbo’s it’s best to run a long runner style manifold because you can move the turbo further forward, beyond the shock tower which opens up space for the downpipe and wastegate packaging. You’ll basically have space from te shock tower back to fit everything in.

Having said that, I think Turblown has a number of options for manifolds and they all seem to work well and people have positive results. Maybe you should look into their options and just select based on your goals.

Our new Cast Long runner will fit that turbo just fine. It has the best wastegate location for an EWG manifold. It will hold low & high boost without issue. You don't need solid engine mounts, and I wouldn't advise them for a street car.

I have the same setup as you and thought that by going with the ebay manifold I would save $500 and not see a performance difference. Currently the last dyno session only got me 458 to the wheels at near 30ps of boost with heavy methanol injection for protection. I just bought a new hand built manifold by addicted performance along with their downpipe and waste gate special and will be driving 500 miles next week to get it put in and tuned. I currently have just the 550 primaries and 1600 secondaries with a walbro 255 pump on stock wiring. Like Howard said we need more fuel so I'm going with the aeromotive 340lph in tank along with a rewire using 10guage power wiring so that I get the 13 plus volts to the pump so when its pushing over 60ps fuel pressure to alleviate any potential issues. They said my target should be closer to 625 at 30psi once its properly tuned but just the cheap manifold is costing me 150hp which is believable since the last time I had it dynod it was only 330 and that was because the ebay manifold had a hole in it the size of a quarter as it was not very well built but for 200 dollars thats what you get even if the hole wasn't in there when it was put on. I have the excessive lim which holds 4 more injector ports and have the plan of running 2 id 2000s if we run out of fuel which the math is saying I probably will. I have the original s366 that i got 4 years ago for around 700 new so its a pretty good bang for your buck turbo but even now its laggy and a bit of a slingshot.

Even though Ive never used any of turblowns manifolds they look well built and from my 7 years or so lurking around seem to have a pretty good rep. I only went with addicted since they are going to be tuning it and I wouldn't ask them to put in someone else hand built manifold.

i bought the same manifold from Addicted. I liked the design with the single gate and that they offer to plumb the WG back into the DP. I hate open gates. I also like that they designed the manifold to clear the Xcessive LIM and the FFE idler; both of which I run already.
I went with the 3.5" DP. I will be installing it all myself so I got the entire kit so I won't have to make my own lines etc.

I am matching it up to a street ported motor that's being built this winter by Jim at JPR. I thought about the EFR 9174 but decided to go with the EFR 8374 EWG 1.05. Will likely be running under 20 psi on pump and water meth.

Sounds like a nice setup Zoom!

I think if I were to upgrade my setup I’d do the same but I’m tempted by Gleaseman’s manifolds. They’re just so damn beautiful. I have no clue if they really make a difference in the setup though. Hard to justify the added cost when you don’t know specific performance gains.

My current plan is to head to Tennessee next wednesday night so I can be there all day thursday and friday which will give them time to get everything put in and tested and a full day for tuning on friday. I will post up my newest numbers when done as i really didn't want to have to spend another 2k or more on a different turbo if I can get the s366 to perform correctly. It would.be nice to be able to set my profec b for low daily boost and around the 30psi mark for the track if I ever get up to one. Just got the aeromotive 340lph yesterday and will be installing it myself. I could probably have put the manifold on as well but I like the idea of them seeing the current setup as I may have more than one issue holding me back the nearly 200hp I'm currently short. Ill keep you guys posted once i get back a week from saturday.

Yes they are the closest most proficient shop from my understanding. Its 500miles but they really seem to know their stuff.

Open gates for me is a no go and Glease will only plumb the WG back in to the DP if you bring the car to him. While I could have a local shop do it after the fact I may as well just buy something that's already complete the way I want it. The addicted kit checked all the boxes for me. Clears Xcessive LIM, FFE idler, has a single gate and its plumbed back in as a kit option.

nothing against Glease, his welding does look nice. I am going to black ceramic coat mine anyway so...

That makes sense. I love the dump but I can understand why many aren't as enthusiastic to have a bomb go off every time they exceed spring pressure lol

If you only drive the car every once in a while, open dump isn’t that bad and kinda fun. Is it loud? yes! but is it fun to be rowdy every once in a while, yes!

I get to drive both setup and my plummed wg setup seems so boring and slow now.

I was running a Precision 77mm extended blade turbo on my FD. The last time it was tuned it made 519 at the rear wheels on 19 PSI. I was supposed to take it back to the tuner after putting about 1,000 miles on the motor to turn it up to 30 psi, but never got around to it. It was at full boost by about 4,300 - 4,500 rpms.
