Reputable shops in Fl

Looking for a reputable shop that may be able to fix my problem with my dual wastegates not working well together

RotaryEvolution 02-25-17 09:58 AM

which area?

spintriangles 02-25-17 10:27 AM

Central Fl but I am willing to travel anywhere in Fl to get this dual wastegate issue working correctly

GoodfellaFD3S 02-25-17 04:19 PM

What exactly is the problem?

spintriangles 02-25-17 04:34 PM

1st gear 2nd gear turbo response is good and you can hear the wastegates both release to the atmosphere. 3rd and above both wastegates appear to not close at the same time as though one was slightly sticking open. The car has a microtech lt10 and a greddy boost controller.

Red94fd 02-25-17 08:28 PM

I posted on your other tread, but I would clean the hell out of those waste gates then try again. Do you have the latest greddy boost controller?

spintriangles 02-27-17 08:18 PM

Don't know much about messing with turbo controllers but I have a feeling that it is the way the wastegates are plumbed. Just looking for a shop or a person who knows how to set up a dual wastegate set up. I am willing to pay. Just want it running right and don't want to give up my dual wastegate set up. Rotor heads please steer me the right way

Has anyone have experience with match in Tampa

cr-rex 02-28-17 10:15 PM

did you try kilo racing in st.cloud?

spintriangles 03-01-17 10:57 PM

Yes. Great Mechanic built my engine and tuned my car but he is a single wast4gate guy. He dislikes the dual wastegates. I would love to keep them and get them running right. Kilo rather me get rid of it and go single wastegate. If all fails I will settle and go single. Like dual for turbo response

GoodfellaFD3S 03-02-17 07:54 AM

It's not like 'Dual Wastegate' is some kind of exotic setup. A mechanic telling you, 'I'll tune this Power FC car but not that Adaptronic car' makes sense. What's next, your FD has a dual tip exhaust so I can't fix this exhaust leak?

I've never heard of two having a problem that one wouldn't have under the same circumstances...... check your line routing, check the gates themselves to include taking them apart, check the tightness of your fittings, etc.

It's probably something simple.

spintriangles 03-02-17 08:41 PM

Well I got the turbo kit from Aspec which has a good rep as far as products so I doubt the precision wastegates are messed up. I think it may be the plumbing

Red94fd 03-04-17 07:42 PM

Any update? Have you fixed the issue.?

RotaryEvolution 03-04-17 08:00 PM

a better question is, how did he tune it with the wastegates all effed up... you may wind up needing a retune as well.

Went to Pettit and he tightened a few of the hoses to the wastegate and bam everything was working correctly. Took it for another spin and bam S.O.S. The problem came back. Brought it back but one of the wastegates on the bottom the connection is loose. To hard to get a wrench in there and we ran out of time. Cam is a great guy at Pettit racing he did not give up even though he was not feeling well. I am going back to Orlando and Jack the car up and remove the wastegate to tighten that fitting. I will probably drop my car to Pettit for some other things at the end of March.

RotaryEvolution 03-05-17 03:04 PM

none of that still makes any sense.

spintriangles 03-05-17 05:26 PM

Just got back from S. FL. Visited Can at Pettit racing great guy, great knowledge and a different approach since he is a road course type of guy. He gave me some good advice and I bought a pulley for my water pump since mine was slipping after it was powder coated and a heat shield to place between the turbo and the engine. He also fabricated me a filter for my turbo since in was running the car without one. He tightened some fittings that were loose and I ran the car. Wastegates worked perfect. Came back to the shop with a smile. Tuned the microtech to copisate with the changes and I ran the car. First few pulls everything was on the money but then the b.s started again. I was floored and frustrated. He checked all the fitting to find that one of wastegates fitting was so loose it could be taken off by hand. Unfortunately we ran out of time and patients and now I am home with the same b.s still. My plan is to remove that wastegate,to get clearance and tighten the fitting.

Fuel filter and the fuel pump strainer were my issue. Check those if you can. Good luck

RotaryEvolution 03-05-17 06:52 PM

unfortunately i doubt the fitting is the issue either, if it was it wouldn't have fixed itself temporarily either, also a loose fitting, ie losing pressure to the gates wouldn't cause a low boost situation. your issue sounds to be more likely in the boost controller than anything else.

spintriangles 03-05-17 07:40 PM

You might be right. I can tell you that the boost controller is new. I can also tell you that manually if you blow into the wastegates they do open. Do you want to take a swing at it I don't have a problem paying. Just want my stuff right so I can move on to the second phase of my build

I have the same boost control as you, I messed with it with different plumbing and the issue was the same. I even hooked the waste gate straight to the compressor housing. I had 40 psi at idle, but who knows what happened when I put my foot down WOT. Take it to Rotaryevolution and post your findings.. I really want to know.

spintriangles 03-05-17 08:50 PM

I am awaiting his response. He might not want to mess with it. If he didn't I would understand I am very anal about how my car runs.
