Protecting a front mount intercooler?
 

Hello everyone,
I recently upgraded my turbo :D. In the process I have installd a front mount intercooler. Now the intercooler is stuck out in the open. I was thinking of putting some sort of mesh or wire grill in front of it, but I can't for the life of me think of a way to do it without it looking dumb :scratch:. I'm also considering leaving it since wire mesh won't do much against anything big enough to hurt the intercooler anyway. Also 90% of the front mount set ups on any car I have seen don't have anything infront of it. Any input would be cool, pics of what you did would be awsome :icon_tup:.

I personally dont know anyone that has had an intercooler get damaged by debris. I have seen them bent up from bottoming out but thats about it.

No doubt it happens, but I would not be too concerned about it.

Friend of mine had a FMIC and drove down the highway during a bad hailstorm. Trashed the fins on the IC.

If your concerned about it, put some mesh in, it won't hurt.

back in 1999 and my FMIC is in perfect condition. Small enough openings to protect but large enough to not reduce air flow.

Are you more interested in protection or pleasing other people??????

The guy who installed the megasquirt into my car suggest it to me. I wouldn't be doing it to make him happy, I just want to have to buy a new one every year or two and was wondering if it was as huge of a problem as he said it was.

Buy one every other year?
Only if you used some of those cheap stamped aluminum ones.
The SS mess ones will last until you take it out or tail-end someone.
