Power FC and Single Turbo

well I called SRX7 today considering I have a Single Turbo setup running on stock maps for the PFC. So They told me that they will charge roughly $85 and hour and this job would take a max of 3 hours to complete. Is SRX7 a Power EXCEL site?

vosko 09-10-01 04:21 PM

one of 2 power excel dealers . XS & SRX7

wptrx7 09-10-01 06:05 PM

is spi in new york an authorized dealer

vosko 09-10-01 08:48 PM

SPI is an apexi authorized dealer BUT they are not a POWER EXCEL shop with a dyno and the special software to tune the powerFC

Hey, send me a email jbaughman@columbus.rr.com
I have a single turbo PFC map that you can use.
What modifications do you have and which turbo?

Jason

I'll email you right now. You're a worldclass guy Jason

Jason, is that map online in the PowerFC map archive?

I've got a map that my mechanic gave me that I've been using for my T-78, but, comparing it to the maps available, it's a combination of non-single turbo maps.

I was just getting ready to start doing some rough street tuning...

Jason I was the one that emailed you about the Single Turbo Maps, haven't heard any responses from you since your first emailed response I hope all is well and please shoot me an email when you get the chance. Turborl7@aol.com

Check out XS engineering....they use the power XL and change you base maps too !

Jason 09-20-01 08:19 PM

For those waiting on my Single turbo map I will post it tonight under the Power FC section of the forum. Sorry for the delay.

XS changes the base map, but if you re-intialize the Power FC it will go back to the base map that it came with.

XS is the only Excel dealer that uses the software to tune the Power FC. I would recommend them over anyone to tune the Power FC.

Will Jason's Single turbo map for his T04S turbo be way too off base for my T62 single turbo setup? Our other modifications are pretty much the same except I have a street port.

I am installing a single turbo this week, but my PFC is already set to 149 (the maximum you can enter) for a lot of the fuel cells. If I make them leaner, my J&S starts to flicker, so basically I need that much fuel. Actually, I just removed my RRFPR and the J&S is flickering now even with the stock turbos and 149 in the PFC maps at about 11 psi boost.

XS is local, so I plan to go there and have them tune the car, but I wonder what other people with PFC and single turbos do when they can't change the base maps to richen things up. What do you do?

It seems like you could tell the PFC the injectors are smaller than they really are so that it would increase the duty cycle. Is this what people do?

It seems that you should lie about both the primary and secondary injector sizes in the same proportion so the PFC can deliver the right amount of fuel when both are operating.

Raising the fuel pressure is equivalent to this in terms of what the ECU thinks it is delivering versus what it is actually delivering. So raising the fuel pressure would work, too.

So, the big question is what do you do when you need more fuel than you can program into the PFC using the Commander in the conventional manner? I would think you would hit this limit with any single turbo setup. Or am I just missing or misunderstanding something?

Thanks,
-Max

Hey Guys, I want to know if the PowerFC can control an external wastegate with the stock solenoid. I posted a thread in the PowerFC area, but I was hoping someone in this area may have tried this.

Please check it out:

Hey, Max, I'm no expert on the system, or tuning, or anything, I'm just starting to play with this stuff myself, but...

It's my understanding that you can raise the percentage settings in the PIM voltage settings. I've worded that oddly, but, in the PIM Voltage menu you can set a percentage value for every thousand RPM's. If you need more fuel than you can dial in on the map, you go into the PIM and raise the range in question by, say, %5. Then, your maps in that range are now %5 richer than they were before, but the map numbers are still the same.

I'm really confused by this posted XS single turbo map, though. The fuel values are much lower than mine, AND the timing is more agressive, AND he's running more boost than I am. But with my maps the J&S still starts to light up when I get near ~12 psi. Unless maybe my maps are overly rich, and it's causing noise because of that...

Jason 09-24-01 04:49 PM

The XS map that I posted is pretty rich for that setup. To run right ,fuel has been backed out and the PIM has been dropped to 95%. You will not need to add fuel.
Dont rely on tuning with the J&S, that is not accurate.
The J&S can pick up external noise and give false readings at times. Its better to tune by O2 voltage or with a wide ban sensor.

Turborl7 09-26-01 12:16 PM

Was that message directed at me or Max. I'm the one with the T62 single but I have a streetport, everything else looks about the same on our cars. Do I need to change my PIM settings? or any other settings? basically all I did was plug in your map.

Jason 09-26-01 05:03 PM

Just watch the timing on that map. Since you have a ported motor the timing should be backed out a little more.
