Possible to pass emissions testing with hi-flow cat but no air pump?
The issue of hi-flow cats lasting w/o airpumps aside, has anyone ever passed emissions testing w/o an airpump, but with a hi flow cat? Is it possible at all?

DOH! Silly me, this is the 'Single Turbo' section - nobody cares about emmisions here! Mod, please move this thread to the 'Tree hugging and Anal retentive RX7 owners' section please. :)

No, it is pretty much close to impossible.
The air pump flows air to the catalytic converter to help burn excess fuel that is being heated by the monolithic brick inside your catalytic converter. Brick inside = catalyst for combustion of excess fuel To make it complete, you need air to feed the reaction. A friend of mine had his highly modified FC pass emissions (very clean by the report) by using a Corvette electric air pump and a hi-flow cat. He controlled the air pump with an extra output from the Haltech E6K. It probably would've been better to hook it up to a pot or switch so you can turn it on when you need to pass emissions. J |
