stock mazda 2mm seals. only parts being reused are rotors and eshaft :D

the main i went with stock seals is because they seal the best. from what i'm told the hurleys are good but will not last nearly as long as a stock seal but when the hurleys break they don't damage anything. i also went with what my engine builder said since he has built many high hp engines with stock mazda 2mm seals and no failures.

the war on 2mm vs 3mm seals will never end :)
the way i look at it 2mm seal better yes. many tuners use them with out blowing up the motors. but how many miles does a real race motor see? also most real racers or tuners know when to let out of the gas if something is not right. detonation, or not staying under boost to long when you are trying to win a race against someone :) 3mm seals take a little more detonation if it happens. your car could be tuned good and get a bad tank of gas. The Hurleys may not last as long as stock seals. but if you are building a high hp motor do you really thinik its going to last over 60k miles? but like you say you go with what your builder suggest. I am going with 3mm hurleys from what mine suggest. I am kinda stating what he told me. He would run 2mm in his own car, but unforesen problems with a street car, for a little more safety i am going with the 3mm. But with my setup I dont think it will last 60k + miles. if it does thats at least 3 years of heavy drving. |

The guy I build engines with doesn't use any templates realy at all. He does the first one by hand then puts a piece of paper on it applys pressure to get the outline then cuts it out and duplicates it to the other side, same on the exhaust ports. He has bean building high end stuff since the mid 70's. He use to be good friends with Jim Downing and traded secrets with him so he knows what he's doing even if it is some old school stuff. Any ways I think we should do more talking about porting on the forum mabe even start another whole sub forum for it.
