Octane/tuning question
 
I just bought a car from OK and towed it up to Denver, CO. There is a pretty big elevation difference (from 1300 ft to 6000 ft) but I have been told that the Haltech E6K should compensate for that and that for elevation alone, I don't need to have it retuned. Is this correct?

My second question is: the car is tuned for 93 octane and MOST gas stations in CO sell 91... should I drive around and find the gas stations that sell 93 because that is what the car is tuned to, or can I be safe by putting race gas in the car (there is a gas station right near my house that runs race gas... not sure on Octane right off hand) ? The car is a T66 with Haltech E6K. Thanks for any advice!

Using fuel octane higher than what you are tuned for will provide you with an extra measure of safety, so you can't go wrong with race-gas. (Although, you would be robbing the car of the extra power it could make with the race gas)

I haven't looked at the Haltech software in quite some time, but it does have numerous correction maps. I think barometric pressure could be one of those. Then again, the correction maps would have to be set up properly to do their job.

If 91 octane is the gas that most stations have, then maybe you should re-tune the timing maps for that...

The car was orginally tuned by Marvelspeed and I think that they did a really good job. The previous owner swears by their work. I may have it retuned for higher octane just for the power aspect, but that won't be for a while as I have yet to find someone in Denver who is a reputable Haltech tuner. As for 91, I have heard that it is shit and eventually detonation will occur. I'd rather be safe and spend a little more money now (higher octane gas), then sorry later on.
