"O" trim vs "P" trim search equals no positive info
 
What are the approximate differences in spool rpm wise and top end HP between a t04e with a .84 divided "O" trim wheel, and a .84 "P" trim wheel, assumeing the same size compressor on each.

I am building a daily driver and have never used any garretts to date, as i have always used IHI turbines, but alas car projects and new wifes tend to clash so I am looking at 3 different used turbines, all garretts T04E with "O" trim wheels. one is .70 divided, one is .84 divided, and one is a monster that i can't read the stamp on but it is deff bigger than a 1.15 and its undivided

after searching, and reading several threads I have come up with no solid data on the "O" trim turbine wheels. I was considering the .84 divided one, but haven't decided or bought yet

I understand that they will choke me somewhat on the upper end, but just how much will they choke it? what would it spool like with the smaller more restrictive wheel? I am not interested in making a dyno queen , like I said a DD is more what this is for. I would use the stock turbo, and just get is made intoa hybrid, but it will not clear the steering gearbox on a right hand drive model.

any insights or solid data would be appreciated.

engines current build:

89 turboII engine rebuilt with stock ports, new housings, and seals.
(pan speed stainless header custom fitted for the FB body) w/ blitz 50 mm wastegate
Injectors are stock 550's for the primaries and modded stocks 1000cc for the secondaries with an older custom fuel rail with a sard FPR
Cosmo fuel pump
stock ignition (13bT)
FB body
ECU will be a Power FC (still havn't ordered yet)
would like about 300 RWHP of dependable power.

i'd reccommend the "P" trim.

the P is by far the most common. this is good later when changing A/R's or replacing a turbine that an apex seal took out.

has anyone ever changed trim only to compare spool time?

all of the turbos I am looking at are used, and are sitting at several different rotary shops in the kanagawa/chiba area, when I asked them about the "O trim" they simply said great for street, but bad for wangan. (Well Duh! I thought) I am not interested in the major top end, more of a fun daily driver, so i guess a better question would be what are the odds of breaking the 300 mark with the .84 "O" trim/57 trim .60 compressor at 12~14 PSI?

Thats exactly my question, the shops here just tell me it spools quicker, and thats all they will say, was wondering if anybody in the states had tried something like it or had actually tried swapping to note the difference.

Can someone tell me what diameter is the exhaust housing on the inside for a "p" trim housing.I have a 0.84 housing that I'm trying to figure out if it is a "p" trim or "o" trim..Mine is about 2.5inch inches in diameter in the exducer section (approx. 64mm)..thanks

ive seen to4b o trim 1.00 go hard, no lag. ive also seen a to4b p trim .84 go hard no lag. but to4b 1.15 clipped go hard with plenty of that gd old fashion lag. all had stock ports with similler size compressors 51mm

Thanks for the info, M7 so for fun daily driver use the O trim should be ok maybe.

Griff don't worry, :bigthumb: I am from the 1st gen forum we don't get bent out of shape like the 2nd, 3rd gen forums do :rlaugh:

I have a P trim, it measures ~2.6, and an unknown turbo that I believe is an O trim that measures 2.0" The secong turbo was a .81 ar with an HKS cast, it made 325whp @16 psi, and full boost by ~2600rpm. The thing is like a V8. Carl

Now thats what I wanted to here! as this car is not for racing just a fun daily driver, quick boost with a moderate amount of HP is what matters to me the JN shops are asking 180.00 for the .84 divided tangetial but it would need to be O/H. It hasn't smacked the housings yet, so a O/H would make it good to go.

what kind of shape is yours in carl?
