Normal Temps? Intercooler Fan
 

I was thinkin about putting a cheap 10" puller fan on my FMIC so it would help with the temps while sitting, either in traffic, or waiting for my run at the drags.

When my car sits while in traffic i notice the temps go higher so i figure its pulling hotair off the intercooler. Dont know if im right on this. Just thot it couldnt hurt.

So what are the normal temps you guys run at if you have an FMIC?

I also have a koyo radiator, removed the AST, fan switch, and no front fender mud guards.
On a good night: 84-85 C
Normal Day: 85-86 C
Hot day: 86-87 C
Traffic: 86-88 C

those temps look fine for water. You should have no intake temp problem with a FMIC. Sitting in traffic yes temps rise, but once you get into boost/speed, wind with cool the charge.

well, would a puller fan help out or just blow more hot air onto the radiator?

damn i wish i had those temps, i dont see those temps unless it's fairly cool outside

maybe its those mudguards gone. hmm i also want to get a vented hood.

I think the intercooler fan should help. its only 40 bux. how could you go wrong?

I was also gonna heat wrap my downpipe, and get a blanket for the turbo.

Im gonna try to get these temps to drop to 81-83 degrees C all the time!

Do you have any air ducting?

I don't see those temps unless its 50F outside and I'm driving at 60mph. The other time I see those temps is when I run my fans on high.

Otherwise my car cycles between 92-99c.

I get those temps and I run the stock fan. When I had the efan the temps would be on the 90's regularly.

with an efan on the intercooler it would run hotter? i dont understand

Yep, same here. With current temps in the upper 80s-90F, I'm running around 94C-100C. Once the fans come on, I drop to 92C-93C and it holds steady.

Do you have a single or dual oil cooler setup? What other mods to your cooling system do you have?

those temps are perfect. i get the same readings, i never go above 90c even sitting in traffic on a 90+ day...intake temps are another story...85c is 185 F.. i have a 180 stat, stock rad stock ast some water wetter/water and the fans come on earlier.

Well i have a koyo Radiator, stock fans, removed the front wheel mudgards, water wetter with distilled water, single stock oil cooler, removed ac, and a FMIC. Yesterday while driving around town i hit every red and sat in loads of traffic because it was around 4:30-5 o clock. And the temps got up to 89 C so i started freakin out. I think I need to get a vented hood and a fan on that IC to keep the temps down to a 82-85 at all times hopefully

110C=230F
99C=210.2F
90C=194F
85C=185F
82C=179.5F
80C=176F

99C (or even 89C) is nothing to worry about. I don't see how you can only hit 89C sitting in traffic unless you're running your fans and/or switched (datalogit) the temperature at which they come on. At 82C your thermostat is just opening. That’s almost (key word, almost) too cold for me.

i know, but i just freak out when hte temps start rising cause you never know they just might keep going...thats how i lost the motor the first time...

the temps when up higher then normal on a hot day then the next thing you know i look down and they just started climbing then i pulled over and shut it down and let the fans run, and when it cooled down i get back in the add coolant light was on and i added coolant and drove home and when i checked the coolant the next day it swallowed what i put in and there were no leaks. so everyday for the next 3 months i had to add coolant each time i drove it, til the point it got so bad that adding coolant wouldnt help cause it would eat it so fast. and starting up the car was really hard. took alot of cranking

I lost my engine the same way the first time, but it was do to one of the lines leading to the overflow coming off. I caught it early, but the damage had been done seeing as how the original engine was in the 100k mile range already.

I'm surprised your temps are so low with no addition of a second oil cooler, ducting or a vented hood. My temps now are pretty stable at 92c, but don't climb past 95c on a normal day. Before the original engine went (and the FMIC), my temps like most FD's were stable between 180F-190F. I wouldn't be too worried about them reaching the 90c temp range, as your still within the safe zone.

The PFC water temp is not 100% accurate.

What would be the margin of error?

The PFC is slow to respond in changes of water temp with the stock sensor. Personally I dont trust the readings because they never match with an aftermarket water temp. The aftermarket water temp would read about 5-10c higher.


80-89c with a FMIC is really low..I wish I had those temps.

Well theres still lots of things i have to do! get a vented hood, that fan, wrap the DP, get a blanket for the hotside of the turbo. I wanna see if its possible to get temps down to 80 C. Is there ever a point of running too cool?
