new gt35r doesnt boost at all

I am having problems having my turbo boost up. It doesnt seem to be sucking enough air into my engine at all. At the same time I am running really rich and flooding the engine when I hit the gas. So I am lacking air.My only thought is maybe a faulty turbo or I have my vacuum lines wrong. My intercooler pipes are cold after running at 1500 rpm for 10 min. My boost gauge always goes from negative to zero when I try to hit the gas and thats it. Jason was nice to send me a map for the setup so my a/f numbers are good now around 11.3 at idle but when I hit the gas it bounces everywhere. The car is on jacks so I dont know if that would make a difference but I wouldnt imagine so. I am also running a stock map sensor. I only want to run 12lbs of boost for now. I also have the synampsis 50mm wastegate with three nipples on it and couldn't find a diagram to for the vacuum lines so I just t'd the 2 top lines and the bottom line is seperate. I dont know if I did that right. Thx

is your wastegate staying open? if not, sounds like a bad boost least.

gusfd3s 09-17-09 06:26 AM

you will not get boost until you put some load on. just free revving won't get you any positive boost.

It's very important to make sure the WG lines are 100% hooked up correctly before you drive the car.

Recheck the connections on your map sensor.

i actually tried to hold it at 3000 rpms for about 6-8 min and it started popping out the exhaust and that is when it floods i think. Im running straight fuel i think with not enough air.I still have a slight exhaust leak with that megan manifold that came with the kit even after trying to mill it but i dont know if that would be an issue. I did look at the wastegate and there is definitely exhaust coming out so i believe its staying open and I have the vacuum hose wrong ffs. Anyone have a diagram for the routing. All the diagrams I have found are for the two nipple wastegates

"The car is on jacks so I dont know if that would make a difference but I wouldnt imagine so"

you are just free revving the engine?

If its bouncing when you hit the gas i would check the TPS voltage.

yes..but the problem is not enough air is mixing with the fuel and that shouldnt be an issue even on jacks ..i should be able to hear the turbo at least start to build ....but there is nothing...im gonna take pix today to show my setup ...i am also a noob at turbo builds so bare with me

Let me get this straight. You are not driving the car to try and produce boost. Meaning there is no load on the engine your just hitting the gas in neutral and expecting to get boost? It ain't gonna happen unless you have a two step or anti-lag in that situation. It requires there to be a driving load on the engine to get wastegate boost unless you have a launch setup.

not necessarily, if you gate is open you would notice it, believe me. you won't build any positive boost unless you put some load on the engine.

is your mapsensor connected? your mixture should be right regardless of boost/vacuum, your map is probably off.

can you hold it steady on 3000rpm or is it bouncing around?

at 3000 rpm it does bounce around but it also burns so rich that it floods the engine and cuts out and just dies. what is the optimal fuel pressure lets say at 3000 rpm..at idle its 40psi..i will also post my tps number from 0 to wot to get opinions

fritts 09-17-09 03:46 PM

As long as your FPR is working fine your fuel pressure should be 40 psi minus whatever you vacuum is.

A base map is just a starting point to tune from. Your idle AFR's are off so your map is also probably rich which is why its running rich and cutting out. Check to make sure your getting feedback from your sensors (tps and pressure). Most likely you just need to tune the fuel and you should be able to free rev higher.

Again your not going to make much boost under no load. Check your shaft play axially (should be barely perceptible) and check for free spinning. If those are fine your turbo is probably ok.

only a lot of throttle on a small turbo will produce any boost in neutral

Sounds like you have other issues that need to be worked out. That map should be fine.

ok so i may have figured it out...the tps sensor is on backwards but the voltage seems to be ok within spec range. should the stem (wires and connecter)of the tps sensor be over the oil filter? because right now they are not? And also I have enclosed some pix of some questions if I can get an opinion. The first is the tps sensor placement ...too me it looks backwards but I could be wrong...and the second pix is the wastegate..where are you guys running the third nipple too. I was thinking the manifold....thx..oh yeah Jason the map is good I dont think it has anything to do with the map. Would it make a difference if I also rewired the fuel pump..I forgot to mention that. About the shaft play I already trouble shooted that and the 35r does have a slight play to my understanding. I also threw it into gear 1,2,and third and same thing no boost and 3000 rpm hesitation. I appreciate everybodys help..I am a noob to the turbo rotary scene but I would rather learn on my own than have someone do it at this point.

kru510 09-18-09 12:47 AM

so my dumbass was messing up the tps when i would start the car and go adjust the throttle cable to get a decent idle. So i redid the tps to spec and now we are all good. Next on the agenda is the starter problem...click click click click the start...any thoughts
