Need help finishing turbo project - need help!
Ok, so here's the thing. I bought this FD from a guy that was in the process of finishing a Single Turbo conversion but it wasn't idling right. So my friend and I wanted to see what was going on underneath the UIM. We took that off and we found a bunch of wires from the wiring harness. Well now my friend is busy so he can't help me much with the project. So I've got some questions:
1. How do I know if the wires are going to the right place? 2. Does someone have a diagram of what wires go to what place for a single turbo? 3. Does anyone have pictures of their single turbo conversion? Here are some pictures: http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...T/DSC00292.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...T/DSC00293.jpg One wire is cut, but I have no idea what that used to go to. Do the other wires look alright? |
I think you are starting in the wrong place. He cut a bunch of the wires for the gazillion solenoids used on a stock car--he could've screwed it up, or he could've done it right. If you have an idle problem, it could be a vacuum leak, it could be anything. It could be a tuning problem, which seems likely.
I wouldn't start messing with your engine harness unless you have reason to believe that your sensors or something electrical are not functioning correctly. Do you have a Power FC controlling the engine? It's not something like a Haltech is it? That requires a bunch more modification of the wiring. |
The wiring cut like it is and just taped together is a fire just waiting to happen. There are a lot of wiring diagrams on this forum, how was it not idleing right?

Actually those look like some pretty important wires to be just laying around unconnected. lol
Not Positive, but the top pic does look like it is from the rats nest, and if that's the case then it isn't needed. In the second pic: The white and grey connectors are for the Crank angle sensors. The large yellow one is for the omp the skinny black one on top connects to the engine harness on the drivers side of the bay(not sure) And I beleive the plug by your two bottom fingers (with the white strap around it) is knock sensor. All of these things are VERY imprtant and should be connected. I'd proceed with caution if I was you, Who ever was installing the single seems to have forgotten a lot of important things. There is no telling what else is missing or incomplete |
Yea and some of the spark plug wires were put on all the way.
The idle wouldn't stay. it would bounce back and forth between 900 and 3000. Could it be that the wastegate is stuck open? I've got the Tial 46mm waste gate. I'm thinking about pulling the whole entire wiring harness out and checking it to see if everything that should be there is there. I was really worried about the wire being a fire hazard too, so I'm thinking about rewrapping the whole entire harness. I'll just map everything out with this: http://www.blackgto.com/RX7/wireharness1.jpg Is there anyway to tell which wire goes to which injector? The car has a Power FC. |
Could also be the TPS. I would make sure it's within spec. But, if you haven't done so yet, plug in those loose connectors ;)

the top right of the pic is the injectors.the b/y is a black wire with yellow line in it this wire runs to all the injeters. so the Lg/r is light green and red wire this is your front primary inj.lg/b is your rear primary,lg/w is the front secondary inj,lg is your rear secondary inj.

Was your car running with the connectors in pic #2 disconnected?
