Competition Oil seal springs

Competition oil seal springs.

Are they better than the standard mazda spring? From what I've seen they only sell them for the outer metal oil seal. They also seem to be cheaper from some sources than the standard spring? Is there any downside to using them?

Does anyone have mazda factory spec on spring tension for any of the springs?

I've decided to use high lift FD3S corner seal springs and FD3S side seal springs no matter the cost. Wondering about oil seals now.

Yes! Get competition outer oil seal springs. Prevents or reduces smoking on startup. Reduces blowby into the "crankcase" especially under boost. Reduces load on PCV system, if you have one. I use them in all my rebuilds.

I mean hey if you're already doing the high lift NF01 corner springs and side springs found in Cosmo/FD engines, why not?

I haven't noticed any increased drag or wear from these. No known downsides when used with nitrided side plates. But I also use them on early non hardened side plates, which tend to smoke at startup anyway, so it helps reduce that. Non hardened plates are crap in my opinion, as are all resurfaced plates.

Jeff have you compared the competition ones to the factory ones?

I remember you said the FD3S side seal springs had extra bends in them?

Do the competition oil seal springs have extra bends it them or appear different in any way, I guess I just want to understand what I'm putting in. Don't worry 100% I will be using hardened side housings!

I'm mostly interested in less blow by at higher boost pressures (above 25psi). I also care about keeping my oil free from fuel at all times

Factory ones appear to be more flimsy. The comp ones are probably slightly thicker.

The side springs are different. The old FC type are shorter than modern FD type and may have a different number of bends. I can't recall but I think it was when I compared 20B springs with FC springs.

Comp outer oil springs appear the same physically with the same number of bends. They just feel less flimsy.

The comp outers should help with oil dilution issues.

i found a spec for the competition springs in the Rx3 sports kit manual. which i'm about to scan in. the part number in that book is different than the Rx7 spring, but its the only spec i've seen

so the stock spring; "standard set load 12Kg, modified set load 21Kg" so the competition spring is stiffer. should help the seal seal, and it might help the rotor stay parallel to the side irons.
