My DIY style Street/Drag FD *pics*
Well it's not much, but I finally got some pictures together on the setup I've been working on this summer. I designed it to be a street car that I could still bring out to the local test-and-tune for some friday night fun. And yes, that fuel cell is two stainless mixing bowls tig'd together :) The alky system is new and only tuned to 15psi so far. The car has been run as high as 27psi on race fuel and run a best of 7.3 in the 8th at only 19psi. Everything was done by me including the fuel lines/rail/dual pump/sump setup, turbo manifold, intake tubing, wiring in the haltech e8, porting (lg street) with atkins cryo 2mm seals and pineapple HD o-rings, diff girdle/300m axles/kaaz, custom brackets to lift the rear 1". The fab work is not my best, but I spend most of my time fixing other peoples rides (manifold was done in about 2hrs!)
Will tune to 20-25psi and post dyno # soon! http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f4...P/S4010381.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f4...P/S4010386.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f4...P/S4010379.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f4...P/S4010374.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f4...P/S4010368.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f4...P/S4010375.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f4...P/S4010373.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f4...P/S4010377.jpg |
  That's a perdy egg you got   and diamond plate rearend cradle
|
you could definitely clean up those AN lines.
|
I'm not going to nit pick, you state it's a DIY job so you know it's not all "top notch." One thing I would do is simplify or clean up some of those vacuume lines. Securing them to objects with zip ties is a good idea so they don't snag moving parts. I would also recommend running some stainless wastegate lines or at least the one on the side of the wastegate. Other than that It looks pretty sweet. Get some 1/4 strip times!!!

I would get a bigger air filter since you have the room. I don't know it's actual size, but it may be a restriction after 400hp.

Haha. See I knew some of you would get a kick out of that. I used to be a 4x4 mechanic so maybe that's my problem.
But....keep in mind that that rearend has held up to over a dozen 7K launches with ET drags. The plates were welded with two passes of 7018 rod on the inside and outside. The manifold is mild steel so I have a brace supporting the turbo to the engine block. I used mild because it is cheaper and less prone to cracking. The egg is temporary as no track official would let that fly without check valve. BTW, those bowls are like 1mm thick around the rim. Think of welding two razor blades together and then not having any leaks! One of those fuel pumps is comming out now that the car is running 30% alky. But cut me a little slack. It's a work in progress... |
I don't run an air filter when I don't have to
|
I like it and can relate........... since I've got some hillbilly in me

I love seeing these kinds of threads. Who cares how it looks. As long as it runs and performs the way you designed it too. :bigthumb: I bet you would show a bunch of guys here on the forum your tail lights while spending thousands less. I especially like how well your diff has held up. You running stock internals in the diff? You got any more pics of it? Might have to copy that approach. ;)

i think he said he has a kazz..

Just made about six pulls at 24psi--unbelievably fast! It just seems wrong to have a pump gas car this fast, like something should be breaking but it doesn't! ARFs are in the 'magical' 10.8 range. I keep the timing very conservative around the ramp-up areas 5-6.5k range because the alky system has lag a bit slower than the turbos and that's just a little protection.
Something's making alot of smoke under the hood during and about 30sec after each pull. Clutch/the exhaust coatings/areas around the dump tube are all suspect. I'm sure that manifold's getting cherry red. Motor purrs. 18" vacuum  |
Few small changes:lol:
Holley 80mm throttle body sitting on a plenum that's about 180% of engine displacement. Still have the bottom half and linkages to make. Intake runners transition into velocity stacks extending 1.5" into the plenum. Remade the alky container out of some (what else) diamond plate! Trapped 102mph in the 8th with a burned up ACT street clutch and a 2.1 60ft! The clutch was toast after that, but still made two more 7.4sec runs. The car is mad fast and I hope this intake can help squeeze a little more out of it. At 25psi I figure I'm at the limit of what this 66mm can flow. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f4...e/S4010375.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f4...e/S4010376.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f4...e/S4010377.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f4...e/S4010372.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f4...e/S4010380.jpg |

Adunlap, you deserve maximum props for your work and results. i liked the comment about feeling guilty since nothing broke. it was funny. i think it just points more to your credit though. keep sharing your progresses in time. |
