Mixed answers. BW s360 restrictor pill or not?
Ive searched quite a bit around the web. Full-race says they need restrictor pills on -4an and bigger.
When I bought my turbo I did not look at the paperwork, but some are saying it tells you to use -4an without restrictor. Anyone have real info on what oil pressure these journal bearing BW s300 series are suppose to operate at? |
I've never run them with a restrictor, using use a 4AN feed, -12An return, and stock FD OP. Just make sure you use a proper crankcase vent( -12AN open line).
Ditto. It's a journal bearing turbo.
10-4. I might have to redo me 10-an return to -12
-10 wil be fine too.
it would save me around 40$. I will try -10 considering i dont exactly make 3rd gen oil pressure. I used the racing beat 85 psi=/
We've ran every bw turbo under the sun will oil pressures from 75-130psi with -4 feeds and -10 returns without a single issue.
Boom!
Boom?
Just started using a S360 with -4 oil supply without a restrictor and -10 drain. So far so good with no smoking issues. |
Journal turbos don't need restrictors, that's for ball bearing turbos which only need to see a mist of oil.
any update with regards to using or not using a oil restrictor ??
thanks |
My S369 on a fd motor with a -4 line with no restrictors does smoke a little.I am looking into getting the oil flow restricted and see if it does stop.By the way is not the motor. My old turbonetics that i just removed it did not smoke and it had decent shaft play on it.
-12 an return line into stock drain location.
is everyone sure these turbos dont come with a restrictor built in?
No restrictor according 2 the BW tech guy.
Mine is a -4 with a .049 nitrous pill restrictor. Way bigger than any BB restrictor and the motor makes 90+PSI and pegs the FD gauge.
I just cut off the flared end of a NPT to -4 adapter and stuck the nitrous pill in there as it has the same 37* AN flare. |
Well i did installed a restrictor in mine and no more oil smoke.

thanks in advanced. |
You shouldn't need a restrictor unless you have a race pressure regulator or an issue causing excessively high oil pressure. I also run a -4 feed and -10 return. All modified turbo cars should have a properly vented catch can.

Whats your oil pressure like?
50 idle 110 when revving.
I have been running -4.an feed and 10an return. Without a restricted hasn't smoked since I originally posted. Never needed he 12an return.
110 is a little high but it shouldn't smoke. Make sure your crankcase is properly vented.
IR any particular way 2 vent my crankcase 2 help with the smoking?
