manifolds

Why are most aftermarket turbo manifolds positioning the turbo way forward? where can I find a manifold like this for my FC:

OR will I have to make my own manifold?

Jager 05-25-06 05:36 PM

I'de buy one from http://www.turblown.net. I can't even begin to preach on their quality.

CCarlisi 05-25-06 05:53 PM

I believe the black manifold in the pictures above is made by A-Spec.

Poweraxel 05-25-06 06:02 PM

yes that manifold above is a a-spec unit. www.a-spec.com

heres is the FC manifold that goes straight up and equal length

both the Turblown and the A-spec manifolds look nice, but the Turblown doesn't come with a lifetime warranty A-spec does. does anyone know if either companies have Reps. here on the forum?

TrboRty 05-25-06 10:20 PM

talk to 1revvin7, he works at turblown and can help you out. He helped me out and was great too deal with!! check out the setup he made for me in the 2nd gen section.

And they are not EQUAL lenght; however I believe they do offer a lifetime warranty on them.

Zero R can answer any questions you have about the A-Spec manifolds. I've got their kit on my car and the craftsmanship is top notch!

I know you got an FD, but how much did that kit run you? All of a-spec's items are call for pricing.

Broken09 05-26-06 10:59 AM

Honestly I'm unsure as I don't have the receipt in hand. Your best bet is to check their vendor section or drop them an email.

If its for a FC, you might want to check www.alienauto.com he is bad2ndgen on this board...

Carzy Driver 05-26-06 01:20 PM

they got some crazy lookin manifolds!

Lifetime warranty too + Equal lenght runners :)

Turblown 05-26-06 02:16 PM

We are almost out of our current stock of FC manifolds. From here on out I believe we are just going to build them to order, this way anyone can have them however they want. We just made a bulk order of 321SS tubing also, and if someone wants to go wild we can get 347, Ti, inconel etc etc

To have longer runner lengths. Longer runners=quick turbo response=less lag.

Owen 05-28-06 12:06 AM

What's the benefit of having two wastegates on a single turbo setup?

weird... you would think it would be the opposite

A dual setup would be for a turbo with a divided hotside, meaning you would 2 seperate pipes coming into your manifold. One wastegate would be on one of the runners, and the other WG on the other runner. You dont have to run it this way, you can run one WG, which is fine.

As explained by CARX7 on teamfc3s.org:

"Combination is what I wanted in a street car. Fully divided? Absolutely. There are SAE studies (no I am not going to dig them up) that say divided helps provide better top end and spool. Your aren't contaminating the exhaust pulses. Ever added a second 12" sub to your single 12" sub system and had less sound 'cause the speakers weren't phased properly and they canceled eachother out? Yeah, just like that

equal length... you want the energy hitting the wheels as evenly as possible. Ever tried riding a bike with both crank arms orineted in the same direction.. Kinda hard and not very efficient right? Right. Do they have to be perfectly even No. How precise do they need to be? I don't know, and I dind't want to build 10 manifolds to find out how exact it needs to be before you start losing performance."

If you do a search on this forum, you will find others supporting this theory also.

Thanks everyone for the info and links, seen some very nice manifolds, most that cost twice as much as my TII, but very nice and well designed. I really just looking for a manifold to start using a T4 turbo that doesn't look like it belongs in some alien movie.

Has something to do with the exhaust pulses of the rotary, there are less, but strong pulses vs. cylinder engines. Which is also why you need to run bigger exhaust a/r on the turbo.

You are then looking for a HKS cast iron manifold, cheap & reliable :)

Carzy, I have been looking around for a while too. To be honest, it would be between A-Spec and Turblown for me. Both shops make great products. I won't lie, I am partial to A-Spec because I've been dealing with them since I had my FD several years ago and they've always been great. I don't think you can go wrong with either shop. Both are good shops and both have excellent customer service.
