lookin for single turbo smog legal
 

hey guys im lookin for a single turbo setup, smog legal. because idlike to drive to the track, i hate trailer queens

How much are you looking to spend? BB or plain journal bearing? What all do you want in the " setup " ? Downpipe/lines etc?

What exactly do you mean by "smog legal"? If your looking for somthing that will pass the visual it isnt going to happen. You either need to know sombody or know a smog tech that will look the other way.

haha, well since im not gay. i mean pass smog (not visual). and i can spend probably around 3 thousand maybe a lil more, an im lookin for about everything to kinda smooth over the engine with the kit. not a full engine overhaul, but deff a turbo upgrade

There are at lease three of us who have done it with A-Spec's GT35R kit and have posted here about it.

As Chuck (cewrx7r1) stated the A-Spec kit(s) allows airpump retention. www.a-spec.com

would a custom designed kit with a larger turbo be possible

Sure can be, we've done a few of them already.

I take it that you'd still need to run the stock LIM. Any chance you could use the Ground Zero LIM and rig up an airpump to still work (for emissions test only)?

The airpump could be setup for constant supply to the cat, as far as LIM clearances goes; no problem, even with a shorty manifold setup.

Unless you have a '95 and are willing to go through the extremely rediculous and expensive process I have, not to mention getting ripped off by bad fabricators and having to do work over again then you won't pass visual because you are removing the EGR and it shows the emissions equipment on the sticker under the hood. The GT35R does not fit the air pump out of the box. You will have to to custom fab work to retain it. You will also have to route all the lines originally going in to the air box in to a similar box. M2 type of intake box is legal because it retains all the lines the OEM box did. Now, with all that said I don't beleive you will ever be CARB legal but it's possible to be federal legal enough to "maybe" pass visual.

I have a Salvaged Title FD that will have a New Large streetPorted Motor with a Custom single 62-1, Intercooler, injectors etc....
The Air Pump is gone along with the EGR. In order to get it registered again I must have it checked out at the DMV Vin Inspection Station here.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO PASS? If I custom fit an electric smog pump to a cat(ie Corvette pump) and fabbed up some sheet metal to cover the turbo/manifold to make it look like a CAI, do you think I have a chance?
In other words, I won't have a problem passing smog but the visual inspection is my biggest obsticle right now. I'd appreciate any and all advise on how to get it done! IF you have an idea...Post it! Thanks, D

^ you will have to figure out the federal laws for your state. CA laws are completely different then the rest of the country. You could still have a problem passing the emissions test. The larger the porting the less likely you will pass. Alcohol will lower HC & CO but will raise the NOx.
