Life of the T04B lag machine!

Well today I ran my boost line directly to the side port of my turbonetics Racegate wastegate (42mm). 9 psi spring. It hits anywhere from 7psi to 18psi. When I had my Apexi AVCR hooked up I could not control the boost no matter what. I hit 1.2bar repeatedly. Or worse only 8psi :) It was not stable. Its almost telling me the WG is done. There should not be anything wrong with the boost controller since previously with the stock system the boost controller worked perfect.

The funny thing is that my boost still will not kick in worth shit till 5000rpm. I'm beginning to think that possible there is nothing wrong with my turbo or system etc and maybe it's just the WG.

wastegate for sure
go try another i bet thats the problem
or maybe take your apart and clean it up and put it back together with a new diaphram

It is brand new. I had it apart 3 times already

Like I posted in the the Canadian Section, there is no way if you just have a vac line hooked up to the sideport of the WG, with no EBC connected at all, that you should ever boost past spring pressure!!!

Dude, throw away that piece of shit.
We don't use anything short of HKS or Tial, period.
Turbonetics wastegates are EVIL!

Ok. And what would you suggest I use that I don't have to get my exhaust reworked?

Maybe a tial will be in order but I have no idea if it would be a drop in thing.

Depends what turbonetics wastegate it is, my brother has a deltagate on his car, and it works fine, I have the newgen on my car( had I should say) and Neither one has had any problems not to mention my other friends using them. Hm maybe chris rado should take his newgen off his drag car.

Mine is the 42mm Racegate. But I'm at loss with my boost and lag problems and frankly just about ready to quit and sell the car!

One of my friends has a deltagate sitting around so I will install this and see if his works.

It will help if you describe or post a pic of your exhaust manifold and the location of the WG. I have TWO 35mm Tial's and still had boost control problems , the location of the WG take off is very critical.

Nothing special. Its an hks manifold so location is the same as probable a dozen other peoples setup. I have not heard of other complaints yet.

I've seen too many Turbonetics POS wastegates get stuck on drag turbo Hondas and other cars.
I ain't wasting my money to chance the WG getting stuck and overboosting my motor.
If you do, you got bigger cajones than I do.

Sorry, please don't bring up sponsored racers who don't pay jack for their engines and equipment.

The Tial 38 is supposed to be a replacement for the Deltagate - same flange.
I think the Racegate is the same flange?
If so, the Tial 38 would fit.

seeing we are on the topic of turbonetics....are there chargers any good? HKS =uberhellamega overly expensive....

RETed 05-09-05 11:52 AM

Turbonetics stuff is okay, but quality control is still a problem.
For what they charge ($1,000 for just a plain-vanilla T3???), it's a rip.
HKS is expensive; get the generic Garrett GT-series stuff - it's almost the same thing. :)

You know just recently I removed my turbo and everything, since im taking apart the motor, but since I had to drive the car back to the warehouse I had to put everything back. On the way there I start messing around with it and I find that there is very little boost, like 2 or 3lbs at 5500 rpm on a 10lb spring !! I was like wtf, first I thought it was an exhaust leak, then I thought it was the wastegate, but after trial and error it came down to my BOV. I was fukin around with it before and I had loosen the nut all the way, off course at wot I couldnt hear it leak. I heard the turbo go crazy but no leak. The reason Im posting, is because you said you had a problem about very little boost, so this might be it...

Cheers! 05-10-05 11:58 AM

Ian, did I not tell you all this stuff before you posted this thread? Did I not tell you to just upgrade the stock turbo a tweak it a bit? You can't have everything, you want spool up times the same as a stock turbo and u want super high HP. What do you want?

That's not very fair. I've got an upgraded turbo a fairly large one. After resolving some of my boost problems I'm now getting full boost by 3K. Sure a large turbo maybe have some lag time but not getting proper boost till after 5K is a problem with the setup, and not the turbo choice.

Agreed, my turbo is as big as Ian's, with an even larger turbine A/R, and mine spools just fine. His turbo is the right one for quick spool and decent power...

Ian's car never sounded right on the dyno either. It took much to long to build boost, compared to mine.

Rx_treme 05-10-05 01:21 PM

exactly!

I pulled the bov off like three times. And adjusted it just as much. Don't think its that. Thanks for the input thought.
