Just Finished Single Install... Not Good...

well i had a apex rx6 kit lying around, so i figured i would install it and see how it was. my car was running perfectly fine 2 months ago before i started doing the install. the car has been sitting for the winter and i started the single about 2 weeks ago. anyway got it done today and i fired it up.... blowing some thick oil and has 0 power. it doesnt want to idle at all. it smells of fuel and oil pretty bad. seems to me like the motor is blown but i dont understand how. i started the car before the install and no problems. did the install and now it runs like shit. any ideas of what it could be? maybe something i forgot to connect?

btw. the ecu is a power fc tuned for the turbo and 1200cc injectors.

also.. i checked the intercooler pipes and there was no oil so thats another reason i think its not the turbo.

I guess the turbo could be leaking oil on the hot side, but I would definitely check some other stuff first...

Is the MAP sensor hose connected? Have you tried to idle the car (not boost) with your old fuel map / PowerFC settings? Maybe you just got a bum map. What else is new -- did you just install the injectors with the turbo?

yes just installed the injectors with the ecu and the turbo. it does not seem like the turbo is blowing oil. it sounds exactly like a blown motor. i know there is 2 vacuum lines to the stock twin intake and now i only have 1 , so i think maybe the other one could be causing me trouble. i am reviewing the single and twin vac. diagrams. i still have the rats nest so vac. lines are a bit different... other then that i dont know. and i am pretty sore about it all.

btw. map sensor is in , nice and tight. had the problem once :)

First make sure you're not getting any vacuum leaks. Then put your stock ecu and injectors back in. If you can idle and drive out of boost just fine then you've narrowed it down to fuel delivery and can fix the offending pieces of equipment.

i dont have stock injectors anymore. i had these done by rc eng. i will try swapping out the ecu to see if that helps. i will also check the vac. hoses over again.

smg944 02-25-05 02:32 PM

ok update.

i think this could be my problem. i checked the vac. lines for the OMP and i had capped the line that goes to the intake. could the OMP just be shooting in oil because i dont have it vacuumed?

oh and i forgot to add that i just did an msd 6a ignition set up to my leading plugs. i know i set it up correct. i will re check it though.

My guess would be a couple of things...check the MSD leads again (I've had bad MSD boxes before) and make sure all the electrical connections are good, esp. grounds.

Second, when you installed the 1200's, did you use new 0-rings and lube them with a bit of oil before sliding them into the rail?

Also, I would suspect that the PFC map you are using is NOT ideal for your car's setup. I've yet to see a map from one car work perfectly, especially at idle, right off the bat. Each car is different. Might be just the throttle body settings, but port size, injectors, MAP sensor type, turbo, etc...all affect how the car runs on a particular map.

i checked the ground with a volt meter and it seemed pretty good. i am going to check the connections again.

the 1200's were installed with new o rings.

i had a pfc before from a different car and it ran fine.

the car runs horrible , like the motor is blown, it sounds funny , doesnt want to rev or idle, and is blowing alot of oil out. it has absolutly no power at all.

Snook 02-25-05 07:00 PM

the engine is not blown that makes no sense at all
sounds like TOO much fuel to me-leaking injectors or something to do with the msd install...try to undo that first it'll be the easiest thing to do

smg944 02-25-05 07:27 PM

checked spark from the msd ...... and nothing. i butt connected the wires. i think thats not working to well. i am going to soder them and see what happens.

Snook 02-25-05 08:16 PM

soldering is always the best way because the butt connection sometimes can get loose. If they feel tight though the connection is good and you just installed it wrong.

If I were you I'd take off that ignition box and take out the whole rats nest. It's always better to do just one thing at a time. You probably made a mistake with your vacuum lines because there are so many to mess up on. Just remove all the hoses and use new ones to connect only the things you need for the single turbo (map, bov, wastegate, fpr, boost gauge). Cap everything else off.

ok update. re-did the ignition except this time i went with a crane hi-6s. i really like this ignition amp because it stops multi-sparking at 2k rpm.. anyway now re-checked spark on the leading coils and its good.

now the problem is that it still runs the same. i noticed fuel is being spit out of my tailpipe. i put my finger in the tailpipe and i got a good amount of raw fuel on it. so i am figuring the 1200cc injectors are the problem. when i installed the injectors i did not lube them. i had completely forgot. figuring they could have split or something.

sonnguyenrx7 03-04-05 01:41 AM

did you change the injectors volume and injector lag time?if not and that was the problem.do you have pfc instruction manual?

kenn_chan 03-04-05 07:28 AM

Start premixing now!

from this point on until you get the problems fixed premix! too much fuel will wipe the oil film from the rotor houseings, and accelerate the wear on the apex seals etc.

You have way to much fuel, check your settings, got them set for the right injectors? got the fuel pressure set right? if those are correct check your injectors for leakdown, they might be leaking badly and flooding the engine...

Although It may not nessesarily be the engine, if it is, Then nothin You'll do to find the problem will help, or give You feed back.
Need to elininate possible engine damage, Do a per/Rotor compression test.
If OK, them continue diagnosing by process of elimination

smg944 03-04-05 10:10 AM

the injector size is set for 1200cc sec. what is the injector lag time saposed to be set at?

rx7tt95 03-04-05 10:25 PM

0.04

thanks michel,

well found the problem. it was my injectors being installed improporly without lube. check out the pics , the black center plastic was cracked and fuel was being leaked in because the o-rings were not seated properly. pics on page 7

Boys and girls, always remember to lube those 0rings before installation!

I was going to said the same thing because it ahppen to me the same way. Good luck with the single.

smg944 03-06-05 10:54 AM

is that black center piece repairable? or do i have to get a whole new injector?
